Title: flowering size in arisaema sikokianum?

does anyone know what is flowering size in arisaema sikokianum? in other words, how big does a tuber have to be before it can flower, in terms of cm's across?

from 3 cm across most female flowers

Post by: Lesley Cox on April 18, 2012, 10:22:53 PM: Ah, thanks Roland for that note. I wondered why all mine continue as males so no seed. The tubers have never grown more than 2cms across. I'll perhaps need to fertilize with some bulb food. They probably need a moister place too.

many Arisaema species change sexes when they get older (bulbs get bigger)
the year after producing seeds the corm is smaller
and will be male again

and it is a species like A. sikokianum (normally this one doesn't make offsets)
you never will have seeds
so you minimal need to buy two or more plants

Post by: PeterT on April 25, 2012, 04:50:22 AM: I believe that Arisaemas have a tuber not a corm. A corm has a stem surrounded by modified leaves, making up the bulk of the tissues, and a corm tunic.
A tuber is a swollen root or stem without modified leaves.

the question now is : for how long will they hold in flower?

the 2 most advanced ones fully opened today, while the less advanced ones will most likely be fully open by thursday....

I have 1 plant show this weekend, so they should all be fine for that one, but the big question is : will they hold in flower and still look nice for the show which is on the 10th, 11th and 12th of may?

i guess that would depend on temperatures..etc. i have now put all pots in the shade, to hold them back a bit...for how long do they usually last in flower? i imagine about 2 weeks, perhaps 3?
