Cute is the word. I look at them every day. I was thinking of making a theatre for them.

It's amazing how far on some are yet others stil tight noses

Mark, you could make a stumpery. ( Is this the right word?)

Lina,

I'd never heard of a stumpery and had to go and look it up.  Some very interesting stuff.  Just looking at the google pictures of stumperies, there are some amazing results.  Now if I had some more space.......  ;D

I have a peat bed that needs remade that could become a stumpery but stumps are difficult to find especially weather worn.

You can ask Prince Charles for advice. (Not, that you would need it!) If I am correct, I have seen him on t.v. with his stumpery.

Your babies are very cute Mark. When it stops raining I'll take a picture of my single seedling.

That will be good to see. How long did it take to germinate?

This afternoon I went to the Hosta specialist here in N Ireland. I should have stayed at home. He relieved me of money ::)

Recently I saw "The book of Little Hostas".
Written by Michael Shadrack.

Looked very nice. Maybe something for you, Mark and Lesley.

My weakness was buying gardeningbooks, isn't that worse?
First you buy the book and then you have to buy the plants in it.

But now I am stronger. :-\

One of our local group members has been showing a lovely little Hosta recently called Stiletto, definitely on the wish list.

Sorry to take so long to reply Mark.

Have finally taken a picture of Norman Davies Hosta Stilleto which was shown at Chesterfield last week in Section B foliage class.

@ Shelagh

Lovely Hosta indeed.  :)

If you don't expect a pot full, you can get a bit of my Stiletto.

I was surprised to see that my H.Stiletto (newly acquired at the Harrogate Autumn Show last year) has increased from one nose to four.  Is this normal for it - if so it will soon make a potful ;)

We have had Stiletto in the garden for a few years, and yes, I would say that it will spread into a good patch quickly.

I would agree. Sitting in a pot here, Stiletto is not fussy at all and a fast grower. Regular division every 2 or 3 years helps to keep its wavy margins.

Would an offshoot be called a heel?

Good question, Anthony. Whatever the name, there are 5 of those in my pot and each would make a single division.  ;)

My post came when others were posting, I was refering to the book, not the plant.  I have H. Stiletto.  Its a lovely little thing....

Anthony,

But a Stiletto only has one heel.  Usually 5 toes in a stiletto though, so maybe in this case we should be calling them heels not noses.  Not sure I'd want noses in a stiletto. :-\  Each to his own though.  :P

Mark S sent me a little seed some time ago from miniature forms of his hostas and I was quite disappointed that only one germinatated though all the seed looked good. Anyway, the one has been growing nicely over perhaps 18 months - I can't remember when it came through - and I've been meaning to take a picture for some time. Today I did and it's not easy to see but the leaves are slightly lighter green in the centres than around the edges.

Then I noticed that there was another, different leaf under one regular leaf and pushed aside the top one to photograph this white-centred leaf. Now I'm not sure if I have one or two as all the foliage is coming from a very tight spot in the centre of the plant. The white leaf is just about 2cms long and for comparison, the label is 5cms across the top, so whether 1 or 2, this is/are very small and neat.

Whilst seed grown Hosta mature, their leaf pattern is often variable. Thrilling plant.
