I didn't find special Eranthis topic (only for white ones) but here started blooming yellows.

Wonderful, Janis. Is 'Aurantiaca' the same as 'Orange Glow' and 'Copenhagen Orange'?
-
Janis really nice.

Eranthis longistipitata
-
I know next to nothing about Eranthis so this may be an ignorant question but am I correct in thinking this is a semi-double? If so, is it of any interest? AFAIK it is a standard hyemalis, although for some reason in an area that is flowering much later than the others in the woodland where I saw it
-
Alan, semi-double indeed. Some of the petals, which normally grow in funnelform, have the form of the sepals.
I know there are some semi-doubles going around but I haven't seen any of those yet.

I don't think so. My comes under this name from Gothenburg BG.

I not remember where I got mine (it isn't my top favourite) but I trust my source. Can't check in Greece.

Mark,
I found my collection list on laptop. Mine came from Dirk, so it 100% is true!

This poor Eranthis hyemalis was obviously trying to flower before the snow even melted this year and the bees found it soon after.

Mark, Eranthis hyemalis 'Schwefelglanz' is in the first days apricot, later pale yellow.

Do any of these colour forms come true from seed? I have some young plants ex a seedex offering of Schwefelglanz, but not flowering size yet.
I grew E. pinnatifida for a couple of years from seed before it said goodbye. Anyone know of a reasonably priced source of this species? It was £10 a single stemmed flower/bulb at an RHS show earlier this year.

Sorry getting lazy. I could have looked in the Plant Finder.

Brian, the most seedlings from Eranthis hyemalis 'Schwefelglanz' comes true.

Eranthis hyemalis Flore Plena
Eranthis longistipitata from Iran (could be new)
Janis
-
Lovely, Janis.
I love the flore plena. One the longistipitata, does the red on the outside of the petals stay when the flower opens? That red-bronze colour in itself is excellent, but the reddish backing to the petals would be interesting. How does it look once open?
Thanks for the pics.
-
That's a more attractive Eranthis hymalis Flore Plena than others I have seen. Is it a named cultivar?

Here Eranthis longistipitata from Khirghizia and Iranian form as I found it in wild. For first time I saw Iranian plant in Gothenburg Botanical Garden and I was surprised for its color. So I specially searched for it in Iran. It was quite late in season but on side of deep ditch, protected from sun I found this last flower and collected a sample from there. I'm very happy that it alive with me. There are no sun today, so I still can't see how looks its inside. It is first time when it flowers with me.

Yes indeed. I've only ever seen E. stellata with (pinkish-blueish) coloured anthers!
There are albino forms of E. pinnatifida too (without anthocyanin)...see post of Tatsuo here: http://www.srgc.org.uk/forum/index.php?topic=8447.msg230498#msg230498

Eranthis growers, this request has come in for help with samples for a research project. I have so far been unable to find anyone to assist Mark Roh in this... can any of you help?
"I am now working with my colleagues in Korea for molecular work with Eranthis.
We are looking for Eranthis sibirica and "Eranthis longistipitata" All we need a leaf sample - about 3 to 4 leaves packed in silica gels. We will cover all expenses to get leaf samples and get samples mailed to Korea (address will be given later).
Would any of your members be able to help us? If leaf samples won't be available, we can receive seeds at costs, and then try to germinate later to get leaves.
We desperately need leaf samples. If we can get this species, we will be very happy.
Please, please help, since this is not common.
My best regards,
Mark".

What a beauty Jan. 8)
-
Stunning, Jan!
-
Hello Brian and Wim
Tomorrow I will show you more photo. ;D ;D ;D
-
I would like to show you today the plant which is very rare growing plant in our mountains.
Eranthis sibirica is the plant with height up to 10cm, with very big flower 5cm in diameter. the color is alpine white or light pink.
It is growing in Siberia and Mongolia. In Europe it is growing in the end of February together with Galanthus nivalis. It is cultivates without the problem.
Next plant is Eranthis sp. from North Korea. I think it is Eranthis stellata.
I didn't see it flowering yet. the height of the plant is 15cm, very often you can find plants with 2 floors of leaves.
-
Very beautiful. The Korean type looks interesting, too.
-
Wonderful, Jan.
I agree with Maggi, the Korean type looks interesting!
-
Very nice eranthis,Jan
-
Incredible to see these Jan, thanks for showing us, the light pink is very pretty.
-
They are very pretty, Jan!
Eranthis sibirica,5 cm diameter flower
That's bigger than I thought! :D

The answer on your often questions. Eranthis stellata and Eranthis sibirica is growing in the garden without a problem. In the nature they are growing together with Cypripedium calceolus and Cypripedium macranthom, just in more wet places. That is why the person who has growing Cypripedium, will have Eranthis growing too.
We are able to receive the orders for Eranthis by the end of July, in August Eranthis starts having the rootes.
