I've been looking for a plant with leaves like Tilebarn Shirley for a while, and Tilebarn Nursery has now closed. I'd be very interested in a plant or seeds if anyone has any available, for sale or swap. Please email or PM me if you have.

Seed from Tilebarn Shirley and its sister Tilebarn greville will almost certainly be on the Cyclamen society seed list this year. Why not join the society.

Tilebarn has closed? Damn! I've been meaning to visit for years and never got around to it.  :-\

Has Tilebarn closed all together, or just for mail order?

That is sad news. It was a superb nursery - & not just for  cyclamen.

Regrettably it has closed altogether and I agree it is sad as they had the best range of Cyclamen anywhere and a history of producing superb plants like Tilebarn Nicholas, Tilebarn Shirley, Tilebarn Greville and the like.
Pat is right, seeds from these selections will be available on the Cyclamen Society seed list.

Melvyn - what has happened to Peter's stock? He had lots of desirable bulbs as well as desirable cyclamen.

Pat, if I may digress, would you care to put a picture of your little dogs (to the left of your post) on the My pets..... thread. They look delightful. Please? :)

Hey, nice pictures Mark   ;)

As Arthur says join the Cyclamen Society and you have access to a wonderful seed exchange, great shows and meetings and extra specially good trips to see Cyclamen and associated species growing in their natural habitats   :o :o :o

And membership is really cheap too, isn't it Arthur,  I can't remember but less than a tenner I think ::)

I visited Tilebarn for the last time last September and as always found plenty to buy even though the benches were much emptier than usual.  I asked Peter about how true Tb Shirley and Tb Greville came from seed and he said about 70 %.  So when sowing seeds from a seed exchange great care needs to be taken in selecting out only the best seedlings, ie , true to type.  as with any seed strain cultivar. :-\

£10 to join http://www.cyclamen.org/membfm.htm (http://www.cyclamen.org/membfm.htm)

Payment would so easy using Paypals donate now button. This would be useful for everyone around the world. No matter what country the person is in they can choose to pay £10.

Can anyone tell me what Cyclamen hederifolium 'Tilebarn Helena' looks like?  I got seed from the AGS seedex this year.  When I followed the link in the online seed list I got the notice that Tilebarn nursery had closed so was no wiser but ordered it anyway.  I had seen pics of a Tilebarn hederifolium with a green leaf with a light centre (Shirley) but didn't remember the name at the time.

I've been thinking for a while it would be a good idea to have a database with pictures of different cultivars of Cyclamen species.  It is hard when faced with a seed list to remember what they all look like even if I have seen pictures or a good description.  Again as Jo says not all seedlings will be true and unless I am sure I do not pass on seed with a cultivar name but some people will pass on seed assuming it must be true because the seeds were so named on the packet.

(Arthur, I am a long time member of the Cyclamen Society)

Thanks, Roland.  Looks nice.  I must look for Tilebarn Shirley on the Cyclamen Society seed list this year.  I did not take any seed this year as I have too many plants and too little space to grow on seedlings till I decide what to keep and what to take to plant sales.  But there's always another I can't resist. ;D

The only (cultivar) named cyclamen I grow from seed is C. hed. 'Bowles' Apollo' and it does come about 60-70% true from seed. The others are nice but nothing special so are just planted/sold as Cyc. hederifolium.

I'm a long-time member of The Cyclamen society, Art. Didn't order any seeds this year because of family stuff, but will look out for it next year.
