In 2010 visited my wife and I some very fine gardens in Scotland among them Cluny House Garden which I also visited several years before and then I bought Primula moupinenesis. I told this to John Mattingley owner of Cluny House Garden and he told that it had changed its name to Primula hoffmaniana. I have since sought information about hoffmaniana and when it had its name changed, but without success. Even in Flora of China, there is no description of Primula hoffmaniana.

Try adding another "n": http://www.efloras.org/florataxon.aspx?flora_id=2&taxon_id=200017272
P. moupinensis is still a valid species, I've seen huge numbers of them on east-facing slopes of ErlangShan and the Gongga Massif. P. hoffmanniana is found around Wenchuan, so plants imported from Chen Yi probably belong to that species. They should be easy enough to separate, the former species is scapose, the latter isn't.

Hi Karl,
Based on what I've read, P. hoffmanniana (correct spelling) and P. moupinensis are two different species. However, some plants being sold as P. moupinensis are actually P. hoffmanniana.
"Primula moupinensis has a bit of a confused history with the original plant material in cultivation turning out to be the closely related P. hoffmanniana" - John Richards http://www.alpinegardensociety.net/servlet/articleservlet?command=printablearticle&sitearea=show&articleid=118&category=showreport (http://www.alpinegardensociety.net/servlet/articleservlet?command=printablearticle&sitearea=show&articleid=118&category=showreport)
