Title: Is this maybe Massonia sempervirens ?
Post by: Hans J on February 16, 2012, 01:50:53 PM
Is this maybe Massonia sempervirens ?

Before some time ( 2010 ) I came across to two new descriptet Massonia species ( from Müller – Doblies) – one was Mass. wittebergensis , the other was Mass. sempervirens ...for a grower of Massonia like me very interesting .

For copy right reasons I can not post here this description ...but with a little search on google it can be founded easily .

From my peronal view is the description of M.sempervirens not complete – because there is not given any location ...only that material comes from Netherland to Germany as Whiteheadia from seeds ex Silverhill....

I have written to Rachel Saunders from Silverhill for some more information –she told me that she has never selling such a Whiteheadia – all is very strange!

After some search I have realized that Mass. sempervirens was quiet rare...

In last year I have received from a very nice friend some seedlings of a Mass.jasminiflora grown from seeds ex Silverhill – he told me that this plants is near evergreen in the whole year . I was very glad to get such plants !
After some time of cultivation I have to confirm that this plants are really evergreen ...last year a bud has start and I have waiting a long time – today it was open – hurray !

Of course – it is not a Mass.jasminiflora .....so now my idea :
Could it be the Massonia sempervirens ? ( sempervirens means evergreen )

The problem is there exist no pictures from this plant ( I have it really missing on the description ) also no drawnings

The flowering time is written in the description in February ( for Germany )

I’m glad to show here now my pics and I would like to hear any comments about my idea with the ID

Enjoy
Hans
