This came from the SRGC seedex last January as Townsendia jonesii. Can anyone confirm, refine or correct the id please?
-
100% against it being Townsendia jonesii Ashley....will investigate the possibilities.
-
either way it's cute. I have lots of Townsendia seedlings in a trough that came up this year
-
Thanks Cliff & Mark but I made a mistake at this end unfortunately! Is it Heterotheca jonesii (syn. Chrysopsis jonesii)?
-
Is it outside or in a pot?
-
Both - in the queue for planting!

Ashley,
Did you ever try the Gardenweb Forum 'Name That Plant'?
http://forums2.gardenweb.com/forums/namegal/
It seems to me they are able to identify nearly each plant, especially North American species.

Hmm, that looks useful. I may give it a go if I'm still stuck after seeing it again. Thanks, Gerd.
-
just be wary of the owner Spike. Nowhere close to this forum 'owner' Maggi

I think I am more accurately described as a forum "minder", Mark! I'm glad to hear that I have little in common with someone called Spike, though... ::)
-
Gardenweb is now a Spike-free zone Mark.
-
really!? Did someone buy him out?
-
Gardenweb changed hands a year or more ago.

Good idea, Gerd. Thanks.

Are not all Townsendias either white or shades of purple?
-
Good point, Lesley... all the ones I have seen are!
I'm thinking Ashley is right enough with his Heterotheca jonesii (syn. Chrysopsis jonesii)
I must start paying more attention to daisies...I have no idea when an Erigeron becomes a Heterotheca, for instance... and lord knows, they're similar in many ways! Maybe I'll come back in another life as a botanist :-[

I'm a self confessed daisy nut. In the summer my garden is packed with 'em. Ashley et al if you want to see small composites go see Czech gardens or head to the good ole U S of A. One day I'll get to the latters mountains
