Title: Happy New Year
Post by: Anthony Darby on December 31, 2011, 12:06:34 PM
Happy new year - starts here in New Zealand, in spite of Samoa jumping the date line fence! 8) Seems to be a non-event here in New Zealand? ??? Kids couldn't even find the count down on the TV!

The "Paradoxical Commandments" have been around for a while---but I like to refresh myself with them at this time of the year.

"Anyway: The Paradoxical Commandments"

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self centered.
Love them anyway.

If you do good people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.

If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies.
Succeed anyway.

The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.

The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
Think big anyway.

People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for the underdogs anyway

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
Build anyway.

People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.
Help people anyway.

Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.

A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OUR WONDERFUL FORUMNISTS!!!!!

I hope that those forumists who have endured ill health this year will have a healthy 2012 and that those who have encountered sadness will have a very Happy New Year.

And to those for whom 2011 has been a good year, I hope that the next year will be an even better one.  8)

Personally I'm glad to see the back of 2011. It had been a beast for me. I wish everyone a very happy New Year, a better one if the last was not too good and even better still, if it was great.

Anthony usually we do the TV countdown thing but this time I think the weather has been so awful in the north that the heart went out of many people. So many public parties and fireworks displays cancelled. I heard on the radio this morning that those attending music festivals on the Coromandel had to be hosed down by hospital staff before minor injuries could be treated. Literally, they were covered in mud. Why anyone would go to an event when even beforehand the mud was knee deep, I can't imagine. In my half of the country however, the weather has been fine, warm and generally sunny with not a drop of the much needed rain that has been forecast for the last week.

I am spending the entire day with my radio listening to the Concert Programme's "Settling the Score," a countdown from 60 to 1 of pieces voted for by the public, of their favourite classical music through the year. The pieces are played without the names of those who voted for them. Two of mine made the list last year. :)

Still drizzling here
It would be nice with a few sunny days
Winter looks far away
But I am in a very good mood
Yesterday my African seeds from Silverhill came in
Gives something to do
Maybe a good idea for the new year to have a look now and then in the bulb topics
there are real beauties to see there

Well Happy New Year to all from France

and a good gardening year for everybody

Itt az új év, új jót hozzon, régi jóktól meg ne fosszon! De ha új jót nem is hozhat, vigye el a régi rosszat!

Here is the New Year, bring new goods, but not take away the old ones! But let him take the old bad one away if he may not bring new good one!

We had fireworks last night in Halifax. I think they were brought to us by Monet as the fog at midnight was surely the densest of the entire year.

Happy New Year to you all.

It's been a lovely day here today. Temp. around 8C but bright - some sun!
Got my Pleione compost mixed and have prepared some of the pans for their emergence from hibernation in a few weeks time. Can't wait :)

Hope you have all had a good day also and that you have a good 2012.

Best wishes
Graham
