This is just a friendly reminder about drinking and driving over the festive period. I went out last night and left my car at the pub and took the bus home. I am very proud of myself this morning as I have never driven a bus before.......

I only wish to repeat the greeting I posted earlier _ sorry, Buttercup, didn't see you'd started this thread already :D
"Holiday Greetings to Everyone,
I wanted to send some sort of holiday greeting to my colleagues, but it is so difficult in today's world to know exactly what to say without offending someone. So I met with my lawyers yesterday, and on their advice I wish to say the following:

Please accept with no obligation, implied or implicit, my best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially responsible, low stress, non-addictive, gender neutral celebration of the summer solstice holiday, practised with the most enjoyable traditions of religious persuasion or secular practices of your choice with respect for the religious/secular persuasions and/or traditions of others, or their choice not to practise religious or secular traditions at all.

I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fulfilling and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally accepted calendar year 2012, but not without due respect for the calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society have helped make our country great (not to imply that Australia is necessarily greater than any other country)and without regard to the race, creed, colour, age, physical ability, religious faith or sexual preference of the wishee.

By accepting this greeting, you are accepting these terms:
This greeting is subject to clarification or withdrawal. It is freely transferable with no alteration to the original greeting. It implies no promise by the wisher to actually implement any of the wishes for her / himself or others and is void where prohibited by law, and is revocable at the sole discretion of the wisher. This wish is warranted to perform as expected within the usual application of good tidings for a period of one year or until the issuance of a subsequent holiday greeting, whichever comes first, and warranty is limited to replacement of this wish or issuance of a new wish at the sole discretion of the wisher.

Disclaimer: No trees were harmed in the sending of this message; however, a significant number of electrons were slightly inconvenienced.""
 ;D ;D ;D
Really, everyone have a great holiday and a safe return!
cheers
fermi

Merry Xmas to you too Fermi. ;D

Our Pohutukawa or Metrosideros excelsa is known as the New Zealand Christmas tree. It grows here in Dunedin but doesn't flower until January most years. Anthony in Auckland or Bill in Tauranga may be able to post a picture, in its full glory. Meanwhile a little taste of the South Island versions, also Metrosideros species but I'm not sure which. These are in flower now so I want to wish EVERYONE on the Forum, a very Merry Christmas and an Exceedingly Happy New Year. My love to every one of you.

The Pohutukawa trees are just going over here. There is a nice "wood" of them at Mount Smart of the way to the "English Corner Shop", where I bought myself a bottle of Riggwelter Black Sheep strong ale from Wensleydale today! ;D This wee tree is at the bottom of the street from us.

All the best to all the forum friends and their loved ones- whether its winter solstice or summer where you are!
Lesley and Anthony-nice to see the flowers down south when it's so white here ( much of North America seems to be not having a White Christmas- but you can see below we are maintaining the standard here!).
Kris- love the Crocus..
Thomas, when I was first scanning your multi-lingual greeting, I wondered what part of the holiday translates as Celine in so many languages? Then I read more carefully...lol..

A special word of thanks to our Moderator General and those who keep this forum on the road, so to speak. It is a wonderful place for us all to meet, share and enjoy and, certainly, my world would be a bit duller without it.

Many thanks to all and a very Happy Christmas to you.

I couldn't agree with you more Paddy. Only one thing I would say is our forum should come with a warning, HIGHLY ADDICTABLE.

Wishing everyone a lovely Christmas and a fantastic year next year, may we all have good health and be able to enjoy our passion.

ESPECIALLY the moaners Maren, after all, where else are we permitted and even encouraged to moan about the things, however trivial, which annoy us? Those who don't want to hear can avoid and the rest of us can safely let off some steam with damage to no-one.

THIS FORUM RULES THE WORLD and those who rule the Forum are THE TOPS! ;D

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from me too. And I agree, Angie. It IS highly addictable. But there is a good thing in this, you learn a lot. And your interest is getting wider. And then you have to look for more very nice things to grow in your garden.
AND you never have a problem making a wishlist for Christmas.  :D

Fijne feestdagen en een gelukkig en vooral gezond 2012!

The shortbread and snowball cookies are finished.
Bread is baking and chocolate melting for more last-minute Christmas bark to share with friends.

Most importantly: the snow came just in time to Annapolis Royal.

May you all feel as warm and comforted today.

No problem. According to Rick Stein, Jamie Oliver and the rest, there are at least 356 million ways to use up left over turkey, most involving curry. Of course you have to make them all before the end of the week and the turkey goes off.
