Title: Yuzawa Engei Nursery
Post by: David Nicholson on December 14, 2011, 09:56:29 PM
A participant in the AGS Online Discussion has asked the question if anyone has any experience with ordering from the above nursery and information on plant quality, naming, not wild collected etc. As he is unlikely to be burdened by a mass of replies if any of our readers have used the nursery and could PM me any information that might be helpful I will pass it on.

You'd made a typo in the name of the nursery, David, so I fixed it.  ;)

Tempted me to browse their website : http://yuzawa-engei.net/11English/framepage002.html

Some lovely plants.... not cheap though at nearly £ 41.50 for a Miyakea integrifolia........
or £ 198.77 for  a plant of Cypripedium macranthos var. hoteiatsumorianum "holding two flower buds" !

This is worth an email to enquire about shipping to the UK.
I found Cremastra unguiculata & Dactylorhiza aristata for 500y, Liparis makinoana (700y), Gymnadenia camtschatica at 800y and Platanthera metabifoliaat 1000y. Even with Cites and shipping, this could be a real saving. Any thoughts?

You will need a phytosanitary certificate from the nursery which will cost you, and Cites will cost, I think its,  £60 per species so that will £500 for those 5, unless you are going to order a fair few its not worth it.

Dactylorhiza aristata is normally quite easy to get hold of in the EU.  But typically I can't find any for sale on my searches.

The questioner on the AGS site has had a reply from a satisfied customer.....

It's probably worth pointing out that the order mentioned on the AGS website does not seem to contain any orchids, which would require Cites certification at quite a high cost. However what he has ordered seems to be of high quality, and it's good to see that they seem to be a reliable nursery with nursery-grown stock.
