Title: Androsace mumble mumble

I'm assuming this is A. villosa - it came up in a pot of Hyacinthus seedlings - I'm guessing I reused the seedpot. I've been trying over the past few years to raise some Aretian and other Androsaces from AGS seed and bizzarely nothing comes up (I used to regularly sow AGS seed of A. ciliata and others and it always came up - maybe I'm keeping them too warm?).

And it is in flower now. Sorry about the slightly rubbish photo.

It is not Androsace villosa. It looks as very difficult A. euryantha but I am not sure. It is similar to A. euryantha at least.

It's yet to put up a scape - or for the eye ring to turn red. But it's definately from AGS seed and the only ones I think I've tried recently are A. carnea (which came up), A. ciliata, A. imbricata, A. hirtella and A. villosa.

I am sorry but I think that it is not some from those named. I am not able to tell anything more. The fact is that A. euryantha, for instance, would probably die during a hot summer or wet winter. If it is really A. villosa, it is very strange. I do not think however. On the other hand I think that it would be quite unbelievable if some seed of A. euryantha or any other rare himalayan Androsace would be in a seed exchange under some name of common Androsaces. Let's say that it is a mystery. Maybe somebody else could help?

Just a small plant of Androsace villosa I photographed at an AGS show some years ago. Does it appear similar?

hi, could be. I know it's enormously variable and I grew a few diferent forms in my youth. Not much sign of a scape on my one though which is odd. No sign of the eye ring changing colour either.

It's in flower at the proper time - only one flower again but it generally looks alot nicer.

Yesterday flowering with me, Androsace ochotensis, a species from Northwest Siberia and Alaska, it should be able to handle the frost in the next week. They say it could be minus 8 this week in our part of the country.
