Title: Books
Post by: galahad on September 20, 2011, 10:25:22 PM
Hi All
I am moving to Auckland and having a clear out of books.  I have the following plant books available if anyone wants them:

The Genus Cyclamen (Kew Magazine Monograph) - NZD$30.00
Trilliums (Case and Case) - NZD$40.00
The Gardeners Guide To Growing Fritillaries (Pratt and Jefferson-Brown) - NZD$20.00

I've got the Kew Genus Pleione and Genus Paphiopedilum here somewhere as well

Postage - $5.00 NZ and $10.00 international

No takers and they go to the local library

Why can't you take them? Is there restriction on movement of plants or are they unsuited to Auckland? ??? Or just no room where you'll be living?
cheers

I guess that's not SO bad then, with so many people whose jobs have disappeared altogether. And Auckland has a few good points - I suppose. :-\

Well, now we know where we can get a room if we get as far as the North Island next year after the Daffodil Convention! ;D ;D ;D
Best of luck with the move, Ross - having had to move overseas for a change of employment once, I hope you find where you "are meant to be".

I guess Ross thought he was "meant to be" in Chch but so many have had to move away for work or just to preserve their sanity. It's so easy from even the short distance away that I am, to think the shaking is all over and it's just a matter of getting everything put together again and rebuilt but a Dunedin friend who went up for the show last weekend said there were aftershocks as they were setting up their exhibits. They seem to be almost all the time. And with banks, insurance, local and national politicians all involved what may have seemed a matter of getting on with it at the beginning, now seems to be getting harder and harder. I admire the courage and strength, and sheer determination to make the best of it, of Christchurch people, tremendously.

I'l see you in Dunedin in 2012.  Have just staged my daffs for the South Island show.  At least I know my daffodil bulbs can stay where they are for the moment

What's happening in Dunedin in 2012? (I can hear the rude people saying "nothing at all" but this is a very vibrant and exciting city).

I'm presuming Ross means the World Daffodil Convention, Lesley.
We "spoke" about it in one of the Narcissus threads earlier,

So we did Fermi. I picked up a pamphlet about it at the weekend, at the daff (and also OAGG) show. So it will be our show too. We had quite a nice little display but we do need more of our members to exhibit. We'll have to work on this through the year.

Of course we will be there. I am depending on you to be sure that it will be so :)

Hopefully it won't co-incide with any major sports events! I hear that airfares and accommodation prices have hit all time highs because of the Thugby!
It means I'll have to put in an apology for at least two club meetings - possibly even our AGS VG AGM next year  :o - if we are to attend both the convention and some of the local shows.
cheers

I'll do my best David. It may make members cringe but I think we should be having a mini show at each of the Hort Soc shows. One can get a bit tired of seeing the same plants each year. It would be good to show the public some summer and autumn flowers too. Maybe we can talk about this at a committee meeting. When is that by the way?
