This glad started flowering about a week ago and I thought it wae G uysiae mainly because of its fragrance, but after looking in the book Gladiolus by Goldblatt & Manning I think it might be
G taubertianus. Can someone confirm that or is it something else.thanks bye Ray

How tall is it Ray? G.uysiae is quite short. Nice plant anyway!
The Goldblatt & Manning book is where I would have looked too so I'm unlikely to do better than you with an ID.
You could try e-mailing Peter Goldblatt directly via Missouri Botanic Gardens - He was very helpful with identifying some Gladioli for me several years go.

My first thought was G.orchidflorus and not G.uysiae, has it a thin leaf or flat broad life.
-
Hi Darren, this plant is a foot high and has 4 flowers.
Hi Davey, the leaves are 4mm in width.
Thanks for your replies
bye Ray

I think Ray you can count out G.uysiae,The top tepal on your flower bends over protecting the stigma and anthers,G.uysiae's top tepal stands proud and upright.I might be wrong but its just my opinion.

Have been in contact with Peter Goldblatt and is ID is G orchididflorus,so Davey you were on the money.bye Ray
-
Ray it's a very attractive form of it.
-
Here is another Glad that I would like an ID for.The label says G alatus but its not what I know as that.bye Ray
-
Colouring looks right for alatus Ray but the flower looks deformed. This sometimes happens with Glads - often a later opening flower is more normal.
-
Hi Darren, never entered my head that it could be deformed. There is only one bulb flowering in this pot of seeds,so will have to wait till next year to see what the others are like, there is still another bud on this spike to open so we will see what it is.bye Ray
-
Ray,
Did the other flower open properly? It definitely looks like atalus to me too.
-
Hi Paul, yes it did flower and the right flower for the species.bye Ray
