Title: Pleione piton seed color
Post by: enrico on September 05, 2011, 01:28:15 PM
Hi,

My Pleione piton made a seedpod... I did not pollinate it but I had more then one flower open at the same time so I though it was some insect around here... Now the seedpod opened and the seeds are white... is it the normal color or are they spoiled??

Hi Enrico

It's too early for the pod to have developed mature seed. Some Pleione seed is very pale brown but not white unless it's got contaminated. Pods that are contaminated usually shrivel up before splitting and the seed is white and clumpy. Good seed is like dust and light brown.

My Pleione humilis seed pods are not anywhere near ready yet and they were the first this year to be pollinated.
