Because this is my first time to write in this forum, I'll introduce myself. I live in the northern part of Holland. My garden is very small. Since a few years I am in love with Galanthuses. The last few years I have viseted several Snowdrop-events. Nettetal, Boschhoeve, Zaandam and Kalmthout. After following this forum for a while, I want to react too. A few days ago I received Gunther Waldorf's book. I love it. It shows a lot of the snowdrops with the greenish flowers. These I love. Now I'll have to make a wishlist. But I believe they are not easy to buy. In my opinion one can not compare this book with The Bible or Galanthomania. The Bible is ofcourse the best without any doubt. But the other two have there qualities too.

Hi Lina and welcome we are coming over to buy some Tulips from Holland shortly when we visit our friends in Waardenburg
-
Thanks so much Pascal. That solves several little mysteries for me. :D
-
Hi Lina, welcome to the SRGC forums
-
Hello Lina, this forum is a of the best sources of information about galanthus. Welcome!
-
Mark, thank you for the first looks into the book. So I will buy it too.
-
One of the best things about the book is that it is relatively up to date with pictures of snowdrops that, in the past, have just been names to me.

Hello Lina, good to have you posting here!
-
Hi Lina,
nice to see you up here!
we should really meet in person!/we moeten elkaar nu maar eens in het echt ontmoeten, deze winter.
groetjes,Loes
-
I`m gonna buy that book...soon.
-
Thank you for the nice welcome. As I read all your messages already for a long time, it feels like knowing you.
Loes, we will have to meet. Maybe when the snowdrops are in flower. I will send you a pm.

My bookseller came to me theses days and showed me the book, saying no word. My galanthophilia seems to be notorious meanwhile. Well, I bought it ... and I think, it will enhance galanthomania in Germany. 300 photographs in a small book at a modest price, that's quite a lot! And it is up to date and even shows some snowdrops, that have not yet been named and will take some years to be available. On the other hand, two or three sentences for each snowdrop, that's not very much. Sometimes you learn the name of the finder, sometimes not. Obviously it is fabulous 'Ecusson d'or' starring on the cover, but you don't find that information in the book, let alone, that it was Mark Brown, who found it. And what he writes about Mr. Greatorex is nonsense ... or the bible would be wrong ... :-)
-
I got the book today. It is nice with/in language, with/in pics and mistakes too. Günter is a galanthus lover not a botanist. I wish you can enjoy the message.
Yes, the book is (only) in German, but the most of the cultivar names are in English ;), it`s good for all Galanthophile I hope.
And if you cannot understand something, please ask. ???

Well said, Hagen... there are enough German Galanthophiles in the Forum to help with any difficulties, I'm sure!
-

I can imagine a book club where Hagen reads to us from Gunters book.

Waldorf's book arrived last Monday but I haven't had a chance to take a thorough look at it or wade through the German. First off I do see 'Rosemary Burnham' as Rosemarie Burnham.
Some very enticing drops!

Welcome Lina. Did we meet at Nettetal? I was working on Joe Sharman's stand.
Thanks for the info - I have ordered the book today from the Book Depository as I, too, have used them before.
JohnW - 'RoseMarie Burnham' ;D
-
Yes, John, we did meet in Nettetal in februari. We had a nice chat and you did put a picture of me and my girlfriend here on the forum. It is good to see you here again. I am sorry you cann't come to Nettetal next year. But an eightiest birthday you should not miss.

John - Is this just one nursery in the pic? If so which one has such a wide variety?
johnw

I can answer that one John, it's Joe Sharman's Monksilver stall, that's him bending over to get something from the crate.
-
Brian - Joe? Good grief. From the side I would never recognize him. Thanks
john

Your have a very good memory, John. My girlfriend is the blond. You can see her garden in this web-site: www.tuinfleur.nl . You were very busy in the stall, but still took time to talk to us. This was a great place to visit. For us it is a good chance to visit all the specialist growers in one day. The weather was great and we loved to meet people we only knew from this forum. We also met a young German snowdrop lover, I donn't remember his name. But we also talked to him. We love to go there next year again.

I'm glad to hear that, I expect a lot of people will be pleased to have that and I did not know, after Günter's death, if an English version would still go ahead.
-
I just bought one from my favourite bookstore here.

Steve
The distance between our house and Kalmthout is 330 km.
saterday we left home at 6 and came home again at 9 in the evening.
So you can see it is not to be done in one day.
I sugest you take your wife to the Keukenhof in spring and make a combination with a visit to the northern part of Holland. You can spent a few days here and see a lot of nice gardens, nurseries and other interesting things.
We will stay in contact about this.
Lina.
