Few Colchicum are already flowering, and now Drimia fugax, from Corsica, and Scilla (Prospero ) sp. from Morroco

Fred, I have read Scilla autumnalis is also found in N. Africa. Could this be that? What do you think?

There are several broad leaved Scillas besides S maderense, from the Canary Islands and the Balearics, I think they spread into north africa. eg Scilla haemmorrhoidales, Scilla latifolia.
Might yours be Scilla numidica Fred?

Thanks David !
To be honest, I give them my "Tulip treatment" = dig'em up when the leaves have withered - give'em a dry rest in the shed - replant in late July !
Seems to work...

Autumn is apparently here:
Vagaria parviflora and Urginea maritima started to flower near the monastery of Latrun on the way to Jerusalem.
Vagaria parviflora is growing between rocks in half-shade.
In the garden of the monastery, they cultivated and planted these two species also.

Some smaller autumn flowering bulbs:

Empodium plicatum
Muscari parviflorium

Not the showiest, but nice anyway!

Is it hardy in Ireland and can you make it flowering every year?

Oron, you are the expert here. Is this carnival of new names well founded? Should we change our labels?

No Poul, it is not hardy and this is the first time flowering. The first frost will probably kill it.

Cheers

Michael.

Well, i think it was a right move to split the Prospero from the rest of the Scilla as they are very different.
Not sure there was a farther need to separate Barnardia.
But again what counts now a day is genetic.
Personally, as I'm not a scientist, and i have already said it, i do not see a reason to separate species which human eye can not tell the differens.,
we simply can not send each plant of which lable is lost for a genetic test in order to know what it is...

Thanks, Oron. If we keep the old names along with the new ones things will be easier.
