I have T. okanaganense in a trough. It is just about invisible until it flowers then vanishes again soon after, though I've been able to get a little seed from it. It's cute and welcome to do its little thing when it wishes. :)

You have got very nice plants!

Can you (or anybody else) tell me what the difference is between T. calycinum and T. spinescens?

If you can German:

T. calycinum Engelmann (in Wislizenus, Mem. Tour
North. Mex., 88, 1848). T: USA, Kansas 1 Oklahoma
(Wislizenus s.n. [MO]). - D: S und C USA (Missouri und
Nebraska, S-wärts bis Arkansas und Texas), im
wesentlichen W des Mississippi; sandige Böden. I:
Britton & Brown (1913: 37).
= Claytonia calycina (Engelmann) Kuntze (1891);
incl. Talinum teretifolium Torreg (1853) (nom. illeg.,
Art. 53.1).

[2] Aufrechte, mehrjährige Kräuter mit ziemlich
verdicktem Wustock und aufrechten Tr bis 3 - 10 cm
hoch; Blä fast stielrund, 2.5 - 7 cm x 1 - 2 mm Ø,
zugespitzt; Inf cymös mit Bra an jeder Gabelung;
Infstiel schlank, 6 - 23 cm; Ped schlank; Sep eiförmig
bis ± kreisrund, 4.5 - 5.5 x 5 - 6 mm, oft bis zur Frzeit
ausdauernd; Pet breit eiförmig, 10 - 15 x 5 - 9 mm, lila;
St 25 - 45; Na kopfig; Fr kugeligeiförmig, 6 - 7 x 4.5
mm Ø; Sa 1 - 1.1 mm, schwarz, glatt.


T. spinescens Torreg (US Expl. Exped., Phan., 17: 250,
1874). - D: SW Kanada (British Columbia), NW USA
(Washington, Oregon).

= Claytonia spinescens (Torreg) Kuntze (1891)
Phemeranthus spinescens (Torreg) Hershkovitz (1997).

[2] Mehrjährige Kräuter bis 30 cm mit ± holzigem
Caudex; Tr mit ausdauernden, verdornten Mittelrippen
alter Blä; Blä fast stielrund, linealisch, 1 - 3 cm x 1 - 2
mm Ø, stumpf, basal in einen kurzen Blastiel verjüngt;
Inf wenigblütig, cymös, Gabelungen mit Bra; Infstiel
schlank, 7 - 19 cm; Ped schlank; Sep kreisrund bis
eiförmig, 2.5 - 4 mm; Pet oval bis verkehrt eiförmig, 6 -
8 mm, rotpurpurn; St 20 - 30; Gr fadendünn, fast so lang
wie die Pet; Na fast kopfig; Fr eiförmig-kugelig, ± 5 x 4
mm Ø; Sa 1 mm, glatt oder am Rücken gerippt.
