Title: Iris sibirica + Gladiolus palustris in habitat

Today we decide to make a little trip to France ( Alsace) to visit a small habitat of iris sibirica + Gladiolus palustris ....

First step was to cross the border from Germany to France ...the river Rhein !
We can use here a ferry boat - the french people call it : Bac

I have visit this habitat two weeks earlier and a lot of Iris sibirica was in flower ...but I was without camera  :-\

Today I could find only two plants who flowers ...all other are ready and starting with fruits  :D

by my first visit I could not find any Gladiolus ....but now they are flowering !!!

The plants are small ...between 30 - 50 cm
The ground looks wet and seems to very peaty ...

This is is a nature protectet area !!!

it is a wonderful place - also with a lot of animals :
Last time I saw two deer ...and today we saw a "Rehkitz" ( a child of a deer )
There are always a lot of storks and some peewit

ALso we could see that there grows a lot of Colchicum autumnale .....

What a wonderful way to spend a day Hans. Thanks for sharing it with us. I do hope you found somewhere nice for a lovely lunch and something to drink. :D

what an enjoyable trip,I really like the gladiolus.Good to see in the wild.

Hans how lucky you are to just duck over the border for the day and be in another country. Hard to imagine from here.

The french border is from me around 10 km away ....the border to switzerland 100 km ....so we live really on a nice place  :D
