These are very nice Hans. Looking at pic number 3, I thought you were going into the cake-making business :D
-
The pink one looks like Epilobium angustifolium (a.k.a. Rosebay Willowherb, Fireweed) which grows everywhere from around here (NI), and all over Europe to Siberia and America. A smaller alpine species is E. fleischeri but this isn't it.

Sorry Lesley - but I forgot to take a picture from a "Black Forrest Cherry Cake" for you :P
I promise -if we go next time ....
Until -here is a pic from the web
Thank you Heather -yes this is the name !!!
-
Look out for Elephant Hawk Moth (Deilephila elpenor)caterpillars (so called because when they stretch out they look like an elephant reaching for a bun) on Rosebay Willowherb (and fuchsia) at this time of year.

Oh yes Hans, thanks very much. It looks and tastes scrumptious. Maggie and I will clean it up in no time. :-* :-*

Hi Hans nice pics
I really loved the cake, but the one known as "black forrest cake" Schwartz wald tårta" in Sweden do not have Cherry is that version the standard there or a newer version?
It is one of the most famous cakes in Sweden (or at least in my family)
Kind regards
Joakim

,....is that version the standard there or a newer version?
Hi Joakim ,
You ask the rigth person ;D
The traditional "Scharzwaelderkirsch Torte" is made from :
3 layers of black biskuit - the upper layer is covered with cherry and watered with "Kirschwasser" - that is not water -that is Alkhohol made from Cherry's ,
cover with a second layer of biskuit ,also watered with Kirschwasser ,than a layer of whipped cream - and than the same again . After this the whole cake will covered with whipped cream and some cherries .
If you have eaten one piece of a real "Schwarzwaelder Kirschtorte" so you are not longer hungry - and you will have shure some alkhohol in your blood .
Maybe this is the reason that in Sweden are not cherries on this cake .
If you ever visit me .....
Greetings
Hans

Hans the Swedes call it Schwarzwald Tårta and do not have the kirsch (cherry) at all in the name. Does a "Schwarzwald torte" exist?
We have thin wafers of chocolate on top else it seems to be the same except for the cherries.
Maybe ours is only a nonalcohol version without the cherries?
I will have to test it when I can. Maybe they have it in Budapest. They have good cakeplaces and have taken all the best cakes from all around Europe and makes them in Budapest. Served with a glass of tokayer and life is great. :)
Now I know what to strive for :)

You should eat in Budapest a orginal hungarian torta like "Malakoff torta"
Try it 8)
If you come to Vienna eat "Sachertorta " .......
There is a lot to do ......

Yes Maggi - I agree ::)

I'm interested in the Malakoff torte. I wonder would it go well with that alcoholic (but fiery) delight, the Molatov cocktail? ;D
-
Lesley ,
Go to Google -you will find there a lot of advices for the Malakoff torte .
For Molatov Cocktails is not so much written - but maybe you must ask the rigth people ..... 8)
