This little Pulsatilla has been in my trough for some years but it seems I never noted its name! It has finally bloomed this year. The leaves are very flat - about 1cm tall - and the flower stalks are up to 6-7 cm tall. The flowers are quite a dark purple (in case my photos do not show the same on different monitors). Can anyone identify it, please?

I hope you get a name for it Lori because it is a real cutie, so tiny.

Lori,
I'm going to follow this JUST to find out what this stunner's name is. (Then if you come east into the Toronto area, BRING SEED!).
Congratulations on finding a beauty!

Agree with Lesley and Carlo, what a beauty.

I'll swap some Pulsatilla seeds with you ;D

I'm pretty sure now that it's P. campanella - I had ruled this out for some reason but a couple of the fine folks at the NARGS site caused me to rethink it. I must have bought 2 plants and somehow failed to label this one on my trough map - it took forever to bloom as compared to the other plant, so I have been wondering about it for some time.
Carlo, I can certainly send you seed a little later on. I have been sending seed from the other plant to the SRGC and NARGS seedexes... but will have that much more this year - my other plant is producing 14 flowers this year!! :D
Thanks all.

Love to, Mark. It will take some time before seed is ready here (just so you know).

Is it campanella or turczaninovii? I have grown the latter and was struck by the strong colour of the flowers - the leaves are also beautifully cut. I also have a wonderful form of vulgaris (ssp. gotlandica) which has short stemmed deep purple flowers, but more open than yours.
-
I also grow P. turczaninovii and find its leaves to be rather different, and the flowers distinctly blue rather than purple - also a bigger plant than this one.
Edit:
Well, on second thought, the leaves are not greatly different on P. turczaninovii as you noted, Tim... somewhat different, but I wonder how much of that may be individual variation?

I still feel it is most likely P. campanella, from comparison to my other plant.

Despite having leaned to P. campanella before... now I'm leaning to P. turczaninovii... ??? Does anyone know the definitive differences between these two?
