I photographed this shrub when I was out for the day, and after a quick search wondered if it is Hydrangea macrophylla Lanarth White.
Over to the experts for a proper id.

its viburnum plicatum mariesii.i would say.very nice plant..

Thanks for the ID
I read on the RHS plantfinder that the hydrangea has pink or blue central sterile florets, so wasn't confident of my ID, but hadn't thought to check out viburnums.

An absolutely superb plant... but it is Viburnum plicatum 'Lanarth' I think.

Oh, didn't see Shaun's post.... yes, Viburnum plicatum 'Mariesii' is a possibility.... but I think 'Lanarth' is the more showy, isn't it?

The layered look is very attractive.

I had both Viburnum plicatum 'Mariesii' and 'Lanarth' in the same shrub border. I thought 'Mariesii' was the better plant imho.
It was more showy with better layered effect, blossom spread more profusely along the branches and lasting longer.
Looks great, contrasting with viburnum opulus.
I dug 'Lanarth' up.
Malcolm.
