Title: iris sport or seedling or ...
Post by: mark smyth on May 02, 2011, 01:49:09 PM
An usual Iris has appeared to the side of my dwarf bearded Iris Chanted.

It is either a seedling, a sport or the plant has produced an abnormal flower

what do you think?

I'm inclined to think it's an abnormal flower. I've seen similar things when weather, disease, insects, etc., damage a bud as it's forming, changing the development of the flower.

Well Mark, as abnormal flowers go, I think it's very pretty... think of the monstrose galanthus we see... yuck!

I agree with Tom and Peter too. If it were in my garden, I would be thinking I'd got a little too close with the Roundup. 'Chanted' is pretty though. :)
