Unbelievable
its still march and here is the first Iris lutescens in flower
not the best picture and selection
but it is early this year
Roland
-
They're starting here too but almost over in the south of france, in the nature.
Here is a white form.
-
That's the one I was searching for
took me almost a week
I found lovely colours
but not a white one
Can we swap a little peace ???
Roland
-

Fred I hope you can get some seed of the white Iris lutescens - I have not seen this one before.
-
I'll try do do some pollination but it's raining now... >:(
-
Here is one the the Iris lutescens patch
as you can see, seeds will result of crossing...
-
Fred stunning :o
-
I loved my yellow lutescens until it died but the yellow is better. Why would an Iris called lutescens also come in purple?
-
Beautiful naturalistic patch!
-
Thank's.
Mark, there is a lot of variation in Iris lutescens colors but why ???? Ask Miss Nature ;D
and colors are always mixed in the wild populations.
I suppose that the purple one is the original obne and the yellow forms are anthocyan variations....
-
When I visited La Provence Verte (near Aix en provence)
most of the places with Iris lutescens where yellow
al-doh after searching a long time
like bulbissime I found a lot of nice colours
from purple to bronze , and yellow to blue
so probably the one who named it
did not see blue ones
or thought the blue one (the most common after the yellow)
was an other species

Wonderful patch of I. lutescens Fred !! Beautiful ! 8)
I had never seen a white one either !!!
-
When I see these photos of species I wonder why people want to make irises bigger and frillier. The simplicity but exquisiteness is unique in the species.
-
I agree with you Pat ;) ;D
-
I do a short 1/2 page newsletter for our local Iris Society each month - this month I am scratching my head as to what to put in it as there is nothing Iridacea in flower here. I try to make it educational for our members. There are a some stunning photos that I might ask permission to use with due acknowledgement of course. Any ideas??
-
Hello pat
I can send you some pictures
I have different colours Iris lutescens in flower now
Roland
-
Thanks Roland that would be great. I might concentrate on a species - Iris lutescens this month.
-
What size do you need
-
So that I can fit a few photos on the page and it is only sent via an attachment to the limited membership only small files are fine - less than 200. If the Australian Iris Society yearbook editor wants to reprint some of my pages I might need larger files.
Better find out when their cutoff date is.
Thanks Roland
Pat

I've got the yellow and the blue form of Iris lutescens to add :D
Pat, if I can help you with any pictures, please let me know. ;)
-
Thanks Luc for the kind offer.
Pat

Here some of the pictures I send to Pat
all are from wild collections in the Provence Vert
east of Aix en Province
Roland
-
and the other ones
The last iris lutescens is from the PBS
mine is not in flower yet
Roland
-
Thanks so much Roland. I did receive them privately. Just haven't had the time to say Thanks :D
-
Pat and I both received some seed of this species from Roland (Bulborum) for which I'm most grateful - this is not one which is widely grown or seen in these parts. I had received some plants from another friend (Robyn R) and this one has just been in flower
[attachthumb=1]
and a few days ago this one from AGS Seedex 2009 came into flower!

Slowly we'll get these established in our gardens to increase the diversity! ;D
cheers
