Title: Galanthus bulbs (or seeds) wanted!
Post by: Hoy on February 08, 2011, 08:20:24 PM
I am looking for bulbs or seeds of snowdrops with huge flowers,  and snowdrops with yellow markings. Names don't matter much as I intend to plant them to "go wild" in my garden!

Hi Trond! Gerard Oud has exactly what you are looking for  G. nivalis and G.plicatus cultivars (yellow form)

Here is his website http://www.sneeuwklokjes.info/ (http://www.sneeuwklokjes.info/)
Hope it helps.

OK, thanks, prussia. They certainly have a lot. However, I hope they deliver to Norway.

But I am still looking for seed as it is the faster mean to get many plants. I am willing to pay  or swap of course if anybody has some seed to offer ;)

Why is it only reginae-olgae sets seed for me in the greenhouse, given it flowers at the darkest time of year?  No others set seed even with hand-pollination, aside from one pod on Trym impostor once and that it did it on its own.  Otherwise I would have lots to share.

Actually I am very seriously thinking to start to grow Gallanthus from seeds myself. In the light of recent restrictions on shipping plants and such, it seems like a good idea. Another plus, you never know what you will get from seeds. Maybe something which was never seen.
The only problem is, in a famous words of Kristi "So many species so little time" . I wish I was 20  :P

And yet, I would check German and former USSR, Drops people.

Hey John!  That's the problem with obtaining Gallanthus seeds. At least from what I have read. The majority of them,  do not produce seed pots. I am really puzzled myself WHY? Do they need special pollinators or is it because of sterile cultivars?

 ???

Hi,
maybe i can help vou, I have a big colony of quite big G.nivalis who propagate themselves by seeds. You can`t compare them with named cultivars like S.Arnott for example, but they are bigger than the average nivalis sold in garden shops. Are you interested? Then I have to be faster than the ants.....
Yours, Olaf

Hello Olaf/Salamander, good to have you join the Forum.

I have a nice mental picture of you running round the plants to collect the seeds in a race with the ants..... good luck!  ;D
