I'm collecting armerias at the moment and have two distinctly different plants bearing the name Armeria welwitschii. I'd be grateful for any advice about which one is most likely to be this species. I've checked Google pictures and think the one I bought from Rumsey is a closer match than the one I got from Ad hoc, but feel sure the plant from Ad hoc is another species, and has a habit unlike any others I've amassed so far.
This first is from Rumsey and the second from Ad hoc.

Hi Chris,
I am a rank beginner with alpines, but I am collecting small armerias too and learning as I go. If I can find a pic of A welwitschii I'll scan and post, might take a while.

Hi David/Mair,
I'm no longer involved with armeria, though I still have both the plants I mentioned in my original post all that time ago. I don't think I'll ever get to the bottom of it though Rafa did put me in touch with a very good monograph on the species. I've looked all over the net, including the page you signposted me to David. That plant looks a lot like one of the ones I photographed, but still does not agree with the description in the botanical monograph. They really are a nightmare to sort out, so I thought I'd just leave it. Also got rust on the foliage of one or two and decided I didn't want to harbour more disease so they've gone now. Good luck to you Mair, send me a pm and I'll point you to the botanical work! Cheers

Good Lord. I hadn't realised that your original post was back in 2007 Chris.
