I have just joined the 10,000 club. It's very exclusive, just two members so far, but I'm keeping the best possible company. ;D
-
Well done, Lesley, and many thanks for your many, many valuable, humorous and helpful postings.
Paddy
-
and I see two are biting at your heels. Well done! Will anyone ever catch up with Maggi?
-
Lesley,
You've got Mark S not very far off joining your club as well. The rest of us are a long way from it. ;D
-
what i am curious about is what your 10,000 posts equals in terms of total time logged in, Lesley?
I know one has nothing to do with the other---I guess I am just curious.
-
Lesley has spent 40 days, 13 hours and 36 minutes logged into the forum.....
Not that anyone is counting ;D
My count is of course higher because of my "forum duties" making replies and comments to various questions, quite apart from any posts I may wish to make as "me" ;D ;D
I couldn't be spending so much time with nicer people, for sure... thanks for all your company, Friends!
Lesley, it's too late here to be baking you a cake.... how about we in this time zone have a nightcap and you folks down south have a great lunch?!
-
I've been on 60 hours so Lesley must have more to say

You're kidding yourself with 60 hours! .... you've been on 60 days, 7 hours and 40 minutes :D

Lesley I can't say I have enjoyed everyone of your posts but that's just because I am quite new to the forum and have missed so much of your earlier posts.
I have enjoyed your humour and your honesty. Here,s looking forward to the next 10.000.
Angie :)

my goodness, and i have 39 days on after a much shorter membership...maybe i just stay logged in too long...lol
-
Well done Lesley. Here's to 20,000.

I tried that excuse, Cohan... then I found that the counter only registers time you are actively "moving around" the pages! :-X

Cohan - I've been on almost 21 days but I frequently forget to sign out until the next morning. Worse 2648 posts which means there were probably 2500 labels that were corrected here.
johnw - +2c but temp to take a nosedive tonight.
-
Can't understand how I've clocked up 45 days here when I only joined in December 2007. Maybe its because I look at everything in case I miss something instead of just the subjects I'm most interested in.
-
No-one will ever catch Maggi - except Ian who did that years ago ;D - but we do both look forward to having Mark join us soon. I love this Forum and can justify the time by telling myself that even if I'd spent every one of those 24 hour days, all 40 of them, outside, the garden would still be full of weeds. I've learned so much and most of all made so many precious friends around the world, people I could never have known existed except for this lovely place. So my warm thanks to every one of you who bears the proud name of "SRGC Forumist."

! no excuses then! I wonder if there is a difference for those who do some functions via email? Or is it only notifications that go in email and then you still have to log in to do anything? In any case, time well spent ;D
-
Many congratulations Lesley !!!! :-* :-* :-*
-
Well done Lesley. Here's to 20,000.
I'm well on the way David, if somewhat apologetically. ??? ::) :D
Cohan I find that notifications all come in by email to Inbox but to enter the Forum or post, I have to click on the email link. I can read most posts in the Inbox but sometimes the complete post is not there, and not the pictures of course.
-
I get the emails also, read a few, delete many and then come to the web site
-
Thanks Mark and Lesley, that's what I assumed, a mix of both;
I've never set up any email notifications, I just come to the site and browse around..
-
Congratulations, Lesley! Well deserved the honor of such an exclusive "club inside the club". You always light us with such interestings subjects and warm words... (I promisse: pics of you and your family among the lavender fields will be unforgetable!) I even wonder if IŽll ever meet the "mini 100 Club"!
-
Juan, there's so much of interest on the whole Forum that believe me, it's very easy for the numbers of posts to creep up at an amazing rate. You'll be a "hero" member in no time at all. But I think all the active Forumists are heroes. ;D
-
Cohen, when you see a thread you like simply click on notify. When you change your mind click notify again
-
Cohen, when you see a threade you like simply click on notify. When you change your mind click notify again
I use the Notify option all the time, however, I find that clicking Notify a second time in an attempt to turn off email notification on a topic, most often does not work, it continues to send me email notifications. Now, I try to be more careful to select Notify on topics that I know I'll never get tired of. :-X
By the way Leslie, congrats on your 10,000th posting! We just hit a milestone on Alpine-L, 666 messages in January 2011 so far, blink an eye, and many more messages come in!

Hello Mark Mc
I wonder if you could post here ,the link to Alpine l --i'm having trouble locating the site .Ta .
Cheers dave.
-
Dave,
Not McMark here.... I hope you don't mind? Alpine-L isn't a website, but rather it is an email based forum. The mailing list is alpine-l@science.uu.nl but to subscribe to the list just send an email to alpine-l-request@science.uu.nl?subject=subscribe (I notice this shows only the address as blue, but you need the bit after the ? as well if you are going to subscribe).
Enjoy. 8)

The Alpine L list and archives have recently moved to a new "home.... it is still viewable by anyone, though, as Paul points out, one must register to post.
This recent activity has, as McMark says, been greater than most of the last six months opput together. The potential loss of their list because of the move seems to have galvanised the Elves..... often -times to make great complaints about getting all those emails and about how they don't like the Forum format, such as we have here.... it's all rather strange!
You can see it all here : http://mailman.science.uu.nl/pipermail/alpine-l/ but McMark recommends here : http://www.mail-archive.com/alpine-l@science.uu.nl/index.html

Regarding Alpine-L, just a bit of clarification on links given. Alpine-L is an automated group maillist that can be subscribed to (free), the service is hosted in the Netherlands. The best way to subscribe is to visit the following link:
http://mailman.science.uu.nl/mailman/listinfo/alpine-l
The address Paul supplied (alpine-l@science.uu.nl) is not the mailing list, but is the "addressee" when sending messages to Alpine-L. Messages sent to alpine-l@science.uu.nl get delivered to all Alpine-L members only if you (the sender) are a registered Alpine-L List Member.
Due to irregularities with the proper display of some Alpine-L Archive messages in its new hosting location, a second Mail Archive view was established. So, in addition to the link to full Alpine-L historical archives Maggi provided, for day to day reading of messages I recommend going to the new Alpine-L Mail Archive (see link below). This particular view of recent Alpine-L mail is nicely formatted, best viewed by "Date" view (newest messages at the top), and inside each message is a handy "thread-view" interface. Check it out here:
http://www.mail-archive.com/alpine-l@science.uu.nl/index.html
Another viewing and Alpine-L Archive searching service has been enlisted, but not yet available.
I've been encouraging Alpine-L members to subscribe in "digest" mode rather than being subjected to a barrage of individual emails, to help ease email management and not drive members to unsubscribe.

I've edited the posts to reflect your comments re contact etc, McMark, thanks.

Thanks all.
It was the archive i was most interested in.
Cheers Dave

We should also be congratulating Mark S. on his joining of the 10,000 club. His qualification posting obviously wasn't noted, as he's now 33 past it, but I thought I'd congratulate him here. 8)
-
Well done Mark. I'm sorry I didn't notice. It must have been in a snowdrop thread and I'm avoiding those like the plague at present. Who will be next I wonder? ::)
-
Never noticed either, congratulations Mark . You should have shouted loud ;D it's something you should be proud of. I wonder if being in the 10.000 club is like being in the millionaire list ::) ;D
Angie :)
-
38 past now. I didnt notice and I'm 100 behind Lesley.
-
I just worked it out. It happened in the snadreep thread. I need a job LOL

Something tells me you have a target in mind, Mark, and will soon overtake Lesley in the posting stakes.

Congratulations Mark !
Working hard to join you, but still a long way to go. 8)
At least this posting is +1 for my count.. ;D

Angie :)
Alas Angie, it's nothing like that. Mark will confirm. Now if there were a $100 or even a $50 list, we could identify with those more easily.
We have a sort of top 200 here, of rich list people. I KNOW TWO OF THEM! PERSONALLY!!! One is a very good tenor who sponsors the local amateur opera company but who is also a good keen gardener and propagates and has planted round the city of Dunedin, thousands of rhododendrons and hundreds of thousands of daffodils, so a good millionaire on the whole.
The other is a decent bloke too, (though he is an Aucklander :o) who a few years back bought an old and dilapidated pub at Carey's Bay on the inner side of the harbour. He and his wife did it up superbly and then sponsored international musicians to play there a couple of times a year but it is still the "local" for the bay population as well as a lot of city folks going the short drive for a meal or a drink. Barry's wife died a while back and he later sold the pub but he still visits Dunedin in his little Lear jet. :)
-
I have an idea that wouldnt cost much. For every 10,000th forum member a free years subscription or a free weekend ;D ::) :-*
-
You worded that badly, Mark.... the latest Forum member to join is number 1452, I think.... so rather a long time to wait for no. 10,000 :o ::) ;D ;D
I could send you a Forum T-shirt - doubtless in the wrong size..... I overestimated the girth of the average forumist when I bought the Forum kit ::) :-[ :-X
-
38 past now. I didnt notice and I'm 100 behind Lesley.
You'll still be posting long after I'm gone Mark. ;D
-
Yes Mark that's a good idea and when you get to 20.000 maybe it could be a weeks holiday of your choice :-X ;D
Leslie, lucky you I don't know any millionaires or if they are they aren't telling me ;D
Angie :)
-
Well I've not been on the receiving end Angie, but they're both very nice men. I suspect there are quite a lot in Dunedin but down here we are largely of Scottish origin and tend not to be overt about such things, not like in Auckland when the richer you are, the bigger and more exotic the car/boat/plane/house etc, are. I read in a book once (Georgette Heyer) a nice but rather silly and very rich woman said about her large diamonds "well if I don't wear them, who will know I have them?"
-
Lesley I would rather have plants than diamonds. My husband laughs at me when I say this as I have a few diamond rings. These were my late mums rings and I when I wear them I feel she is close to me. But hand on heart if there was a plant that I wanted it would win for sure.
Lesley have you lived in New Zealand all your life.
Angie :)
-
I think it was the late Mrs Evalyn Walsh McLean, once owner of the famous Star of the East and also the Hope Diamond, who said.... "my family always know when I am really ill and they need to call a doctor, because I am wearing no jewellery."
This lady also once owned the 31.5ct diamond ring that Edward bought for Mrs Simpson.
I'm with Evalyn! I love a bit of sparkle and have a real magpie streak when it comes to jewellery.
-
Now that you bring up the subject I wear the polo shirt as a night shirt ;D Not really because I sleep ... :o ;D

Now Maggi a bit of sparkle! a 31.5ct diamond you would need to put on sunglasses to protect you from the glare, amazing :o

I could use it to stream sunlight to light a fire, Angela, or just sit and warm my hands by it's "fire" ;D ;D
-
;D ;D ;D
Angie :)

Not yet! ;D

Thank goodness for that Fermi. :D
But yes Angie, so far.

That will very likely be in the Underworld Angie. Hope I can get a decent bottle down there. ;D
