The postings are often accompanied by attached images which are gathered and preserved by the forum system.
I wonder whether the images may be approached directly without knowing the topic number.
For example, approach to the following attachment in the Cardamine topic
http://www.srgc.org.uk/smf/index.php?action=dlattach;topic=6422.0;attach=259173;image
is in reality topic-independent, but users cannot get to it without finding its address
in the topic. An overview or gallery of attachments would be useful.

The images posted in the various threads are purely held in that place. It is possible to search for a particular plant, and find all mentions of that, though, of course, this will list text references as well as images.
We have always invited submissions for the plnat photo databse, hoping to gather a gallery of plant photos and related information but little has been forthcoming over the years, with most people prefering to post pictures on an informal basis in the Forum.
It would be marvelous to have volunteers to collate phots and information from the forum to add to the plant database but I realise this would be an enormous task, even for a single genus.

You can go to Google and enter:

then click on the images tab.
Someone compiling all the photos and information would be wonderful - but I think they would not get past aardvark before discovering how hard it is to be definite, whereas in a forum people can express a range of opinions.

Are aardvarks difficult to grow David? I've often thought it wold be nice to have some. What kind of compost woud you advise? :D

i confess i did not know a photo database existed!

Perhaps it would be easier if every plant photo had the appropriate, or should I say, recognisable, plant name. Then it would be quite easy to put together a gallery in alphabetic order.
Grouping them might be a little more problematic, if taxonomic accuracy (is that an oximoron, I wonder ::) ::) ::)) is required. But common name grouping (bulbs, cacti, orchids etc.) should not be too difficult. ;D ;D ;D ;D

They're very docile, hence the saying "aardvark never hurt anyone".
Excluding this thread, there are four aardvark references on the SRGC site.

Let's know what you come up with Anne. There's that song someone once sang, starting "I'm an aardvark..." but I don't know how it goes on. I always thought they would be nice creatures, along with armadillos (dillowing in their armour. Where does that come from?) Alpacas are nice too but llamas can spit a disgusting and slimey green bile, if they don't like you.

Ah, yes. I can't agree with Gerry. I think Maggi's aardvark is delightful. I'm sure he'd roll on his back to have his tummy tickled, like my Teddy. 8)
