Title: Location of Danevale please
Post by: Brian Ellis on December 09, 2010, 10:09:16 AM
Sorry to be vague (what's new), but in 2007 we went to a garden on the banks of the River Dee, there was a fantastic display of bluebells all down by the river.  I think that this garden opened for the National Garden Scheme in Scotland, but can't find any details.  There was a walled garden which had a wonderful Magnolia campbelli too.  If anyone can give me any further details I would be most grateful.

I assume you have checked the Scotland's Gardens Scheme website on http://www.gardensofscotland.org/district.aspx (http://www.gardensofscotland.org/district.aspx) already?  The name you quote is not there, but you can search by area, although of course they will only list gardens which are currently open.

I'm presuming this garden was somewhere near the River Dee in Galloway, South West Scotland?
I have been searching for anything even remotely similar and can find nothing at all!

Yes indeed it was on a visit to Dumfries and Galloway, we visited some lovely gardens (including the very different Garden of Cosmic Speculation at Portrack).  The lady owner was not a youngster and I would not be surprised if it is no longer open.  I was rather hoping that someone in South West Scotland would know of the garden having visited in the past.  I have googled until the air was blue, but to no avail.

Well found, Graham.... I bet that's it.... and if it isn't, its a darn site nearer than I managed! I didn't find that in my SGS searches.

Many, many thanks Graham, it is indeed.  What a plonker I am for spelling it without an E ::)

The homemade teas were especially nice.  We were there on a gardens of Dumfries and Galloway weekend: Glenwhan, Logan, Danevale, Threave, Peilton, Corsock and Portrack.

We admired some double Narcissus poeticus and Mrs Gillespie had her gardener dig up enough to share round the coach so we all had one.  The scent is beautiful!
