Title: Herb needs identification
Post by: Stephenb on December 01, 2010, 02:53:55 PM
Anyone know what this aromatic low shrub is. It was seen in a small herb garden in the centre of Winchester, Hants. A Lippia/Aloysia of some kind perhaps?

It looks to me like a Caryopteris of some sort Stephen.

Thanks, Ashley - that looks right! I guess it was an aromatic herb garden for the blind or similar. Have never heard of Caryopteris being used as a culinary herb.

While we're on the subject here's a shot of this herb garden in Winchester. Didn't notice at the time, but King Alfred is up on the roof (top right) repairing a few slates  ;)

This view will look a bit different today with the reported 1ft snowfall in Hampshire...

Lovely picture Stephen and good to see that Alfred had a practical side after all.
