When I send the material I collected in Taiwan to Holland last month I put the phyto inside the package but didn't mention that on the outside simply labeling it as "study material" thinking "if it passes without being checked I save the inspection cost by customs, if they want to inspect it, all the papers are inside to still be legal".

This way I didn't import them illegally but also wasn't bankrupt afterwards. The more items to check, the more man hours for customs, the more it costs. But 350 euro for a batch of a single item is ridiculous.... And I already thought the Dutch customs were expensive.... :o

I see that Chronopost International is an express delivery service.
Similar to FedEx, I guess.

We have a similar problem with a company that U.S. businesses like
to use called UPS.  The U.S. exporter prepays the shipping charge but
is unaware that the recipient will be required to pay a high brokerage
fee to get the package across the international border.  Canadians
have launched two class-action lawsuits against UPS for their exorbitant
brokerage fees.

Apparently this is a problem in many countries as regulations favour
postal importation and courier services are not treated the same as
national postal services.
