Any suggestions are appreciated...., even if it is at family level
Edit: just got a private e-mail saying the first might be a Hemiboa.

I was going to say Duchesnea (the mock strawberry) for the third but that has trifoliate leaves and I think is now included in Potentilla. Certainly Rosaceae anyway...
-
could the second be an Euphrasia of some sort
-
Rubus taiwanicola?

I'm sure that is a Euphrasia... lovely plants . 8)
In Taiwan, four endemic taxa were identified based on their morphological
and ecological traits by Wu MJ, Huang TC (1998) Euphrasia L. In: Huang TC et al (eds)
Flora of Taiwan, vol 4. National Taiwan University, Taiwan,pp 591–597.
These euphrasias are : E. nankotaizanensis E. transmorrisonensis. E. transmorrisonensis var. durietziana and E. tarokoana
The first is yellow......http://www.flickr.com/photos/36715178@N00/3729127540/
the second has deep pink reverses to the flowers

third has slightly different leaves and the lobes of the flowers are deeper... but it's close!! .....http://www.flickr.com/photos/36715178@N00/3728325835/

Maggi,
The picture was taken at the beginning of Taroko Gorge near Tayuling (Dayuling) so Euphrasia tarokoana would sound very likely but the online version of the first edition of the FOT states more than 4 taxa........ ???. E. matsudae and E. bilineata also occur in that area but the differences seem to be in the "hairs" of the various parts and to be honest, I haven't checked that and can't really see on my picture....... :-[ And if these 2 other species from the first edition have been synonymised, under which of the 4 in the second edition would that be?
Unfortunately I could not find any seeds on it but I have another close-up. Nearby was also flowering Dianthus superbus. Never paid much attention to Dianthus but this species is indeed superb!
PS. All species names of Taiwanese plants with "morrison" in them usually refer to Mt. Morrison, nowadays known as Yushan, lying further south.

Oh, yes, now I find these names:
Euphrasia bilineata Ohwi this is a synonym of this I think...Euphrasia matsudae Yamamoto
Euphrasia durietziana Ohwi
Euphrasia exilis Ohwi
Euphrasia filicaulis Y. Kimura
Euphrasia masamuneana Ohwi
Euphrasia nankotaizanensis Yamamoto
Euphrasia pumilio Ohwi
Euphrasia tarokoana Ohwi
Euphrasia transmorrisonensis Hayata
I'll leave you to magnify a photo and get going on the hair count, Pascal!!
