The Cyclamen Society Autumn Show was held in its usual venue of the Birmingham Botanical Gardens. Quite a few forumists were there, but somehow I didn't manage any "people" shots.
Ian Robertson was the Show Secretary and he gathered his show plants on the hall floor before staging.

Here's a a few general views of the benches

Big indeed! I've never seen a pot as large as this so full of Cyclamen graecum. I'm sure I couldn't have picked it up.

Oh, I could.... I'd have picked it up and hidden it in the back of the car, to make off with it, sharpish ! ;D ;) ;)

Hi Diane
Thank you so much for taking and showing us these photos from the show,
there are some stunning plants there.
I wonder which substance Ian R. is using for his plants to look like that...is it legally permited for the competition... ;) ;D

Not as old as you or I, Luc, that's for sure ;D
The largest one of Ian Robertson's stunning C graecum I think was sown in 1998. Not sure about the massive one, it was grown by Martyn Denney, but Melvyn might know??

don't know, they certainly look like they are on steroids ;D
Thanks to everyone for their comments and interest

I have just checked with Martyn, the plant was collected from Monte Smith during the Cyclamen Society field trip to Rhodes in 1991, one can never be sure of the age of a collected plant but with a guess of say ten years making it now circa 30 years old.
When I saw it on Sunday ( in a pot about 23 inches in diameter) I expressed surprise that he was able to move it, Martyn said he can just about carry it on his own but wanted the comfort of others nearby when he was negotiating steps! So all credit to him for growing it so well and being prepared to cart it around the country for other people to see it!

I'm sure the Forum could organise a "whip round" for some grapes to send to Martyn when he's in hospital for his hernia op - after all we here have all had the pleasure of his lovely plant. 8)

Wow Diane, that was a real treat, we must try and get there one day, we have friends in Bourneville who like Cyclamen ;D ;D

Amazing Cyclamen, Diane. Thankyou for sharing them with us. The number of flowers on Ian Robertson's anatolicum is astounding. I've not been very successful with Cyclamen graecum in the past but some grown from Cylamen Society seed from plants collected on their expeditions produced a few flowers last year and look hopeful for more this year. They survived last winter in the most exposed corner of my greenhouse so seem to like my environment, but I don't think I'll ever get them to flower that well even if I do live long enough to get them that big.

Thanks Diane for taking us to this wonderful show. How else could I have been there? ::)
