Title: Anemonopsis macrophylla flora plena
Post by: kalle-k.dk on August 18, 2010, 06:43:32 PM
Last year we bought Anemonopsis macrophylla Flora Plena and Anemonopsis macrophylla 'White Swan'
'White Swan' got flowers last year, incredibly beautiful flowers. We had to wait until this year to see a flower in the double Anemonopsis and also here we think there is an indescribably beautiful flower. We grow them as ordinary Anemonopsis macrophylla.

I didn't know there was a white form. Rather surprisingly, 'ordinary' A. macrophylla does quite well in my very hot garden.

Count me as one of those surprised. Water as I will, my potted Anemonopsis cannot tolerate any direct sun in summer, or the leaves scorch badly.

It's one of those Japanese plants I have to grow in a big pot because it probably wouldn't survive my heavy, poorly drained winter-wet soil.

Rodger - my plants grow  in some shade - albeit hot shade. The leaves show some scorch as flowering comes to an end, i.e., now. My soil is basically heavy clay though 'improved' for the Anemonopsis.

I bought them from a Japanese friend.

I grow them in shade in peat soil beside my Rhododendrons. The soil is very moist and it must never dry out. I know Crug Farm nursery got White Swan on his list.
