Title: Unknown bulbous plant (summer growing)
Post by: ThomasB on August 16, 2010, 08:08:25 PM
Hi all!  :D

A bulbous plant I bought this year via ebay would be happy to get an identity.

The 2 bulbs were sold as Eucrosia bicolor but from the leaves it's clear that this must be something different. The bulbs were almost round (a bit flattened) with 5 to 6 cm diameter. They are growing fast since I potted them and are now about 30 cm high (leaf tips). They somewhat resemble tulip leaves in shape and also feel like these (the typical squeaking - hope you know what I mean) but tulips wouldn't start to grow in july in the northern hemisphere, wouldn't they? No flowers so far but little bulblets are sprouting.

I guess the bulbs are some common summer-growing bulbs as they have their origin at a bigger bulb seller and most likely got miexed up. Any idea?

In a German forum I received the suggestion that it might be Ornithogalum (maybe something like arabicum or saundersiae).
