Title: Latemar region in the Dolomites
Post by: ruweiss on August 15, 2010, 10:06:04 PM
Last month we spent a wonderful week in the mountains. We stayed in a nice, family operated hotel with
very friendly people and a wonderful herb dominated kitchen. A nearby chair-lift made it easy for us seniors
to reach the alpine zone with all these good things growing and flowering there in profusion.
The days passed much too quick, but we are so grateful for everything we experienced in this botanical
paradise.

Rudi, what a fantastic place with sheer and dramatic mountain views, blue glass water and some wonderful wild flowers - your Anemone baldensis CU photo is super  :)

Were the herbs they used wild mountain herbs...they have a wonderful flavour?

Super images of an unfamiliar (to us) part of these glorious mountains.  Thanks for posting.

We visited Pragser Wildsee during our visit this year and that amazing lake was also an incredible colour ... but not as vivid as these two gentians seen on the same day but not at the same location.

You are most welcome, Panu.
Just in case you have missed any of the following - there are many pages on the Dolomites both in the old forum (see main SRGC page) and via the following links:-

Unfortunately you will be visiting Arabba when the majority of flowers will be over but your visit may inspire you to visit the area in June or early July when the floral display is at it's best?

Thank you all for the kind comments. Our hotel was a so-called herbal hotel, even a small pillow stuffed
with fragrant herbs was lying on the beds. The owner  herself was the cook  and used many tasty herbs collected
in the wild and also from her garden. There was also a guided tour for collecting and identifying these plants,
and learnig how to use them for cooking, health care and wellness.
I can fully understand Cliff's faible for these blessed mountains but am a bit envious, that I could not see
this "Designer Gentian" in the wild, many thanks for showing it. Panu surely will have a pleasant holiday.
