Post by: mark smyth on August 09, 2010, 09:36:25 PM
I was planning to buy some Tulips this autumn but have forgotten the name ::)

I have tried serching the SRGC but obviously have the name wrong. I think it is possibly kaufmanniana Egam.

Can you help?

Hi,

may I tag on to this please. I'm after a tulip I saw in Ian Butterfield's garden last year. It had a label Tulip pulchellum lilliput, which is wrong certainly as far as the Latin is concerned.

So if we transform it into Tulipa pulchella 'Lilliput', does such a variety exist? It is very short as the name implies and the flowers are surprisingly large, darwin shaped, and deep red. I'd love to have some but don't know where to look.

Try looking for Tulipa humilis 'Liliput'.  T pulchella went into T humilis some time ago and although I believe it's now been reinstated, it takes everyone time to catch up.  It's certainly still under T humilis in the Plantfinder.  And that is where to look for a supplier.  Try the on line version here:
