Some days ago we took the chance to revisit Liguria again after 2 years, the highlight was of a 4 hour trip
to a higher place in the Ligurian Alps, where the alpine plants were at their best.

The meadows were blue from Viola calcarata(?), an unforgetable view.
Gentiana ligustica was in full flower, we even saw some pale blue plants.

The last pictures for today:

wonderful! the valley view is great, love the rose--are these naturalised or in a garden?
of course the semps are my favourite--just like in your troughs! :)

Super shots Rudi ... many thanks for posting.

I've had a hectic week and was busy at work today and this whirlwind trip across to Liguria has enlivened my spirits when I thought I was too tired to travel ;) ;D
What a super selection of plants... the variation in the Violas is delightful.

Dear friends, thank you all for the friendly comments, maybe the attached photos from
the Ligurian Alps are of interest for you:
In spite of the foggy weather we were lucky enough to find this beautiful Fritillaria.
Several good forms Primula marginata were scattered in the higher regions.
Pulsatilla alpina flowered profusely.
The biggest surprise for me was this Daphne mezereum; flowering near the melting
snow at about 2100 m, the entire plant was just about 30 cm in height, unlike to
the plants which grow in our forests

Lovely set of images Rudi.

Thanks you Rudy !
Beautiful show !

Rudi was the rose photographed in a garden. Seems an advanced hybrid to find in the mountains wild. Any idea of a name?

The roses grew in a private garden, give me some time to ask the owner,
maybe she knows it.

Great set of shots, Rudi.
I'm off tomorrow to Lake Maggiore, staying in Stresa where there is an alpine garden above the town so I must visit that and wander up higher to see what is about. Some good gardens in the area also, Isola Madre, Isola Bella, Villa Taranto so there will be some reports on my return.

Can you tell me which area you were in as we visit Liguria from Switzerland and I would like to see some of these Italian alpines, you see you have hooked me!
