Title: Roscoea purpurea?

Hi,

Can anyone confirm if this is Roscoea purpurea? Or come up with a better name if it is not? I am a complete novice to this genus.....

This site is a good place to start looking at photos of species and cultivars, then to compare to your plant.

Mark, I don't have the book by Jill Cowley but was contacted privately by fellow SRGC member Anne Chambers and she said it was more likely humeana. The site you mention shows humeana close to my plant but not exactly like it so maybe it is variable? This plant came straight from China so most likely no cultivar.
