Title: Acer rubrum
Post by: Kristl Walek on June 11, 2010, 03:27:45 PM
Acer rubrum was recently wild collected here in Nova Scotia.
This seed is ephemeral, and must be sown before it dries out; cannot be moist packed to preserve viability because it is an immediate germinator.

I have excess seed if anyone is interested---but let me know asap---as seed will not keep.

Do you think it would survive here in Zone 3?

Linda---yes, I am pretty confident it would be fine in the Calgary area, especially when grown from seed. I do know it is growing in Edmonton.

red deer is a touch cooler in summer than edmonton, but better snow than calgary and less dry, fewer winter melts than calgary, so if its growing in edmonton, there is hope :)
