Dear All,
I am part of a small team at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh who are preparing an extraordinary large format book (one in Spanish and one in English) on the plants that are associated with Chilean forests and woodlands. The feature of the book is that all the ca 80 plant species are being painted at RBG Edinburgh by 3 highly talented Turkish artists (see website -http://www.rbge.org.uk/science/genetics-and-conservation/international-conifer-conservation-programme/chile/book-project-plants-of-chile). So far we have almost 40 species complete or in preparation but we are lacking some key species and I am asking members if they are growing good specimens of the following species so that they can be painted over the next two years.
The species required are:
Sarmienta repens
Luzuriaga polyphylla (or other Chilean species)
Mutisia subulata
Mutisia decurrens
Anemone hepaticifolia
Rubus geoides
Best wishes
Martin Gardner

An interesting project Martin. I have Mutisia decurrens & subulata, 3-4 & <1 year old respectively, although neither has flowered here yet. Whenever they get around to doing so I can send photos if you're interested.

Martin,
What a delight to have you pop up on the SRGC forums! I hope all is well.
When I was with NYBG I briefly had Sarmienta repens, but don't recall it surviving long--and I have no photographs of it.
I will eagerly follow the goings on at Edinburgh, however. Make sure to keep the group in the loop.

Hi Martin,
Sarmienta repens appears quite regularly on the show benches here in England, so there should be any number of flowering plants available ... have you contacted the Sheaders, near Southampton?

Hi Martin
Good to see you here! It's perhaps 30-years since we last met at Di and Pete's in Suffolk! Can't help I'm afraid with living material of any of these, the nearest being a picture of Rubus geoides in Chile (Sabina gave me some good advice before that trip).
Cheers
Stephen

Images of Sarmienta repens taken at Pudsey Show ... for the reference of newer members who may not have been fortunate to see this lovely plant before.
