Title: unusual smell in the garden
Post by: mark smyth on May 14, 2010, 06:46:49 PM
For the last few days there has been a strange scent in the garden especially near the front door. Around the door are various alpines, daphnes, clematis and salvia.

It wasn't until just now while taking photos I realised where the smell was coming from

This is the guilty plant

The plant is Androsace sp. and smells of horses and their stables. Not a nasty scent

Mark, you should do a mixed planting with Crocus chrysanthus 'Miss Vain', I seem to recall your characterization of its scent along similar lines, earlier this spring.

LOL We have horses and stables - it's a great smell ;D
We also have wisteria scent seeping into our bedroom at night, which I think I prefer, though there's nothing wrong with horse poo :)

Very true Mark. Well remembered

Gill, it's a sweet smell maybe more like hay than manure
