Wonderful pictures Ian, thank you for the tour but perhaps you ought to clarify who the picture in post 4 reminds you of before you upset all your female friends!
-
Thanks for taking us on this tour Ian !
Aren't the czechs real wizzards in their Rock gardens ?? :o :o

Hi Gail, Luc and everyone, yes perhaps I should explane who the picture reminds me of but then again best not.(Who said it was female?) The next garden we visited was Z.Z s you climb up a steep set of steps behind his house to reach an old quarry which has been transformed into an oasis of the very best plants so here are a few. ,chers Ian the Christie kind.

Next set still at Z.Z s Ian.

All sorts of lovely things there..... not often Cyril meets someone with bigger Daphnes that he has, is it? ;)
In photo DSC0302.... what is that browny-coloured flower? Is it a Matthiola of some sort??
Matthiola anchonifolium is probable - or M. montana perhaps
-
Funny, that's the one that caught my eye too, Maggi.
-
Just been speaking to Cyril on the phone... mentioned it to him... he liked it a lot, but didn't know what it was either! There is a label in the photo but it won't magnify clearly enough to let me read it..... and it may not be the label of that plant!
If Kind Ian Christie doesn't know , then I'll email the pic to ZZ!
Cyril was excited by his trip to see the Czech gardens and their wonderful show and full of admiration for their plants and gardens.
-
Ian, thanks for sharing your pictures!
Funny, that's the one that caught my eye too, Maggi.
Entering all pictures, this one puzzled me too and makes me very curious!
-
Hi all still more to come, the next garden is that of jiri Sladek a really different planting with many rhododendrons and a superb selection of planted troughs some home made and some real ston but all had different rocks in them and two fantastic raised beds again very different 2 meters by one meter just shows what you can do with a small space. cheers Ian the Christie kind. sorry everyone but I do not remember what the brown flower is either but when you see so much something odd really catches your eye. I am sure ZZ will know.

Well done, Luit, your memory is wonderful. 8)
I have heard from ZZ, who is in Denmark, getting cold and wet :-X
He couldn't remember the full name off the top of his head but said it is the chocolate coloured Matthioli sp. from Anatolia :D
-
A wonderful selection of troughs, a beautiful rhododendron garden and a wife who can bake like an angel : that fellow Jiri Sladek is one lucky man! Though it looks to me as if all Czech Rock Gardeners are equally blessed! 8)

Hi again another garden which is inside a dis-used quarry a very special micro-climate here and the owner was very special also Milan Halada, please excuse any spelling mistakes again two pages of pictures, cheers Ian the Christie kind.
-
Next set same garden Ian
-
More fantastic plants and gardens... brings a whole new meaning to "walled garden" doesn't it? With these quarry cliffs making walls to protect the garden.
Wonderful; the quality of all the Daphnes in the gardens make me weak at the knees.... I am very envious!
-
Breastaking pictures of spectacular gardens!
I'm going to the Czech republic mid June. Any advice on what gardens or nurseries are worth visiting apart from 2 botanic gardens in Prague and one in Brno?
-
Well I have been very busy with the Aberseen show which was as usual a special day, I managed to get a red ticket or two but the show was very high standard. The next garden is and pictures are from Vojtech Holubec. So very special. Ian the Christie kind
-
Same garden Ian.

This is the last garden we visited it is only 2 years old and was constructed by Jiri Papousek our guid and driver. We are so very fortunate that we have Jiri and his family as friends and we owe then so much to spend time drving us around the best gardens with his own very special new crevice saved till last. I was so inspired that I came home and started to build my own crevice which I will post pictures about later. We must also thank Kaj and Minna Anderson who guided us around Prague and were superb company on our garden visits, A huge thank you to everyone who made our visit very memorable and indeed each garden had its own special attraction. cheers Ian the Christie kind.
