Title: Maihuenia & Austrocactus
Post by: erekose on May 09, 2010, 01:06:24 PM
Hi
Anybody grow Maihuenia or Austrocactus or know a good source for them? I am interested in acquiring plants / cuttings of Maihuenia & Austrocactus to try growing outside.
Thanks
Erekose

Not too hard to find Maihuenia poepigii, but M. patagonica is pretty rare.  Also not as attractive, so stick to M. poepegii :)  I sometimes have cuttings but not right now.  I thought I saw some at an Alpine Nursery recently.  Somewhere listed on here maybe?

Austrocactus are less common.  I know a few people that have them but not so many selling them.  Rene Geissler had a few recently, and also Maihuenia:

You could also try Ian Robinson:

Kakteen Haage (http://www.kakteen-haage.de/shop/oxid.php/lang/1/) sells Maihuenia poeppigii & patagonica and Austrocactus hibernus & spiniflora.
It's a very good postorder company.
