Wonderful summery pictures, Erika!
I see you have enough fish to feed many of us for supper tonight.... see you later..... we'll bring some wine  ;D
I am amazed to see the water lilies out now.... in my pond I never see them before the middle of August.... though I admit my pond is more shaded than I would like it to be. :'(

Juhász Ferenc:
Seasons

Sped is Autumn! And decay is sped.
I tore towards you across the rotting plants.
My helpless eyes hid behind the vacant lids of the dead,
like solitary naked crabs in pearl-rimmed shells.
Dead men's shadows run purple from the whale-tooth railings.
Mouldering babies hang from their maw, and moaning
soiled chrysanthemums.
A blue dove they led towards me, her feet belled silver
chains trailing.
I slumped before your atom-splitting smile, turned grey
under your wandering glance.

And Winter's gone!- Unlike others we knew.
The city's jaw of bells gnaws the bald heavens.
My teeth machine-gun the cold streets, where I begged bread for you.
Winter ties up the woods in silence, knotting the white ends.
Hyacinth-blue the shadows from fairyland, behind that railing,
up to your silent window lope animals in a sorrowing throng.
Grey ruin hugging the lilac, at your bedside I listen to
your heedless babbling,
deer, hare, and thrush in the marked snow follow your flame-white song.

Pitiless Spring! Foam encrusts the walls,
organic green flesh has dried in a cracked glaze,
shreds of dead flowers shrivel beside spooled tendrils,
death's whirling arms for the bright seed grains reach from outer space.
Shadows vomit up green bile beside the railing,
cannibal sharks and saw-tooth starfish thrash hungry in swarms,
lust sprouts at your dribbled prayers, chuckles, and happy gabbling.
I throw myself here, grass on living grave, covering breasts
fragrant as tombs.

And in time Summer! Into a gold medal it mints a people.
The moon's randy stallion flashes his badge with a blue grin,
beneath ropes of nerves, cries of pain rise from the world.
In ultra-violet froth the insect slavers in its daydream.
Acid shadows are licking from the snake-fang railing,
lizard fingers grasp at your bulging heart, where many moths
to red ash burned.
Under the hardening leaves, I listen to your female flower's
husky moaning,
groaning by the red cave's dripstone garden, great panther, I,
in your heart buried.

Davey,

I was wondering the same thing and think it is a Lycoris, although it could be a Nerine.  Not my speciality, although I have tried both with little success.  Certainly beautiful.  Lycoris is hardy in the garden, while most Nerines are a bit tender for me.

There was 15 Celsius  at morning but 35 Celsius afternoon - we stay on the meeting from 9,30 to 19,30
it was so interesting, only thing you cannot know which costume is which nationale

There was a big /I mean BIG/ fair, only traditionaly hand work, martial arts performance, shaman drums, rider show, yurt village, concerts and so on

Or what the Americans call the "Hardy Amaryllis", Lycoris squamigera.

Erika,
those pics reminded me of images we've been seeing on TV on a program called "On the Trail of Genghis Khan" about an Australian chap who went from Mongolia to Hungary on horseback the way they did centuries ago.
cheers

Rhapsody in an autumn garden
Vas István

Patches of damp invade your garden of light.
The sun rises late, remains a few short hours,
Frosts blacken and bite
Your dahlias, sunflowers,
Late autumn fires the petals of helianthus
Which gasp for the sun-but soon run out of time.
Their mortality illuminates and haunts us-
We do not share it with their kind.

The little cherry tree blushes-but how would it be
If the clouds suddenly burst (as well they might)?
Red leaves are lovelier when spinning free
Before damp wind in charismatic flight.
Already a deep natural instinct waits
On the punishment of stiff November showers:
Here at least the beautiful defeats
More ruinous powers.

I think of us-our hearts and guts and all.
I have no fear, for you or me, of death.
But why reach winter, should it be possible,
Brimming with self-disgust at every breath.
In beauty leaves and flowers pass away
But those who grasp at stars and lose their thread,
What can they do when winter bars their way
With earthly loathsomeness and dread?

Frozen dahlias, roses: our garden revives
And rises in full beauty though destroyed.
Now we'll see what we have gained, what thrives
Beyond skin, organ, gut and void.
It's autumn yet so fight with a will,
Defend yourself and earn remission
Until the victorious knowledge in the cell
Embarks on its final expedition.

In ten thousand years has there ever been
A beauty that has not been ours?
Do ordinary leaves and flowers
Store their light for the winter unseen?
There's nothing to be ashamed of:
There's more of beauty even in our foul
Decline, then in all the glittering stuff
Of flowers or of fowl.

Why else accumulate beauty from day to day
So prudently, what is it for
If not so that even in life's final struggle there may
Be beauty in store?
The masters, our ancestors, were not trifling when they
Created noble, lovely monuments:
They meant them for your last line of defence
In our wars against the forces of decay.

What do the flowers or vegetation know?
Imperious rockets, pursue your explosive trajectories!
Ours are beauties not of the earth: they grow
Down human centuries.
And always there's you and I-on Mars
Or the moon or wherever, who can tell,
Until we discover such magic formulas
We cannot rest nor sleep too well.

And time will yield you energies whose burning brand
Will set alight new constellations.
What's terrible now will turn to consolation,
And you will see and I will understand,
Your suffering reveal a pattern
More joyful, lovely, with greater powers:
And in your smile will open those long forgotten
Dahlias, sunflowers.

Yes,  we are safe. The disaster more then 150 km away.  But we have been still  worrying, because we live close to the Duna /the dirt running to the Duna/ and the national park of the Gemenc http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gemenc (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gemenc)

the main problem, the owner filled up more then the limit
very upsetting this case - I do not want to make political comments on this site - the owner /old and strict communist people/ still not take the responsibility even not apologized for neglecting the dam

Ostoros kalács - Whipper
Increase 5 dk yeast in 4 dl of warm milk with 3 tablespoonful of sugar, add to it
3 eggs yolk, 7 dk melted margarine or butter, a chip salt, and 60 dk flour
we knead it,  raise it double size
We divide it into 6 parts, roll all dumplings out onto rectangular one
Filling: 25 dk melted margarine, 12 tablespoons of sugar and 4 heaped tablespoons cacao and  spread it on  the sheets, roll up, and braid 3-3 as you see on the   on the photo, raise again for a half an hour and bake in a preheated oven, on medium

only I not felt to braid today, just rolled in 1 sheet and make a round shape from the roll

I'll definitely bake it again.

congratulation! it's looks so good! try with the next filling: bit up the egg whites, add 25 dekagramms sugar, 25 dekagramms nuts or poppy seeds, zest of a big orange - it is the Christmas variation

Ok, thanks again

Please, I  need your help! I try to translate one of my tale and have been suffering with names for a while. I pounced on my head, since this is the best place that I should ask a council. The characters are named after wild flowers, and I cannot found the similar in English. For examples Ranunculus - Boglárka is a girl's name in Hungary, but can I use it as a boy's name in English? it sounds more boy name to me.  Berkenye can be translated as Rowan, it is OK. So, if you would be so kind and help me out some  wild flowers name - can be use as a little fairy's name.

Post by: Gail on March 21, 2011, 05:25:35 PM
There are lots of English girl's names from flowers; Lily, Daisy, Rose, Rosemary, Heather, Holly, Cherry, Jasmine, Poppy, Daphne...
Boy's names are more tricky - I know of two boys named Rowan but can't think of any others.

Thank you so much.

I will tell you a tale, accurately the same, than my flowers gossiped for me on a warm summer evening. My tale  speaks about Nelumbo /?/Lotus /?/(/ he is a male caracter/) and his mistake.
He lives far faraway, where the beautiful and kind dreams are born. There is a wonderful place, the Fairy Valley. A brook runs bubbling cheerfully between shady trees-gabbling on towards the flowery meadow................ ;D

I have enjoyed my visit via these photos and your Gallery, erika... the little house on the lake is  so pretty.... but I think the bear in the dining room is not so friendly to dinner guests as you are in your home!  ;D

That is very kind of you.... but I worry that bears invite themselves to dinner, and do not wait to  be asked  ::) :o ;) ;D

I might be so busy looking at the wonderful flowers in your garden ( the big golden hemerocallis is a delight and the Iris you show in other threads are fabulous) that I have no time for dinner!

Erika, I think your Dragonfly in the last picture is the same as Robin showed the other day, from England..... http://www.srgc.org.uk/smf/index.php?topic=7219.msg201402#msg201402 ..... I never saw it before and now it appears twice in a few days, in England and Hungary. Wonderful things to learn here!

Once settled in, Clematis can be amazingly tough and resilient. My own favourite is C. x Venosa 'Violacea' and each year it struggles to make its way through blackberry and other rubbish but never fails me. When I plant a new one I always now, sprinkle the planting hole with Trichoderma granules. I haven't lost one in years. :D

"How silently they tumble down
And come to rest upon the ground
To lay a carpet, rich and rare,
Beneath the trees without a care,
Content to sleep, their work well done,
Colors gleaming in the sun.

At other times, they wildly fly
Until they nearly reach the sky.
Twisting, turning through the air
Till all the trees stand stark and bare.
Exhausted, drop to earth below
To wait, like children, for the snow."

It was my beautiful garden at late spring (http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i76/arykana/2012/cseris.jpg) and this is how it looks like now (http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i76/arykana/2012/IMG_3180.jpg)

I would like to introduce my workplace
It was before me:

I just cannot beat the poor environment for a whole day, I have to plant some flower on the walls and in the windows

After me:

Gratings to everybody.

First, I would like to give a big thank you for Maggi. She was so sweet and sent me a birthday card. One more year gone over me.

I have a very good news. I had my medical check at last Friday. I am free from cancer. It is a big relief for me after a whole year of fear. I still got easily tired.

Let see, what is new in my life.
Pali's /my elder son/ girlfriend, Mónika moved to us. They are planning a wedding after they finished university. Csaba /younger son/ take a break in the university, because we are out of money. He will continue while he is working.
The weather was terrible to us in this year.  Had a cold, icy spring and a dry hot - I mean it, the temperatures went up over 100-120 for weeks, and we do not have air condition - summer. My garden suffered greatly. Many plants died out.  Despite this terrible conditions the grapes were very good and made an excellent wine.
Unfortunately I did not have time for painting lately.
Please forgive me, I am too lazy to upload pictures in Photobucket.  If you are interesting, you can see my garden here http://arykana.lapunk.hu/?modul=galeria&a=98866 (http://arykana.lapunk.hu/?modul=galeria&a=98866)
I had a trip to Maryland. My friend invited me for a vacation. I needed some "indulgence".  Her daughter had a big birthday party. 100 people was invited, including me. I can tell you, it was a party. There was music played, polka and duck dance. Had a very fun time.  We had a smaller party, I rather will call a dinner for my birthday too.
I visited Washington DC. I planned to visit the Natural History Museum, National Museum of the American Indian.   but because the government shut down non of the museums was open.    I think I have to go over again.  Pictures here http://arykana.lapunk.hu/?modul=galeria&a=73881&p=1 (http://arykana.lapunk.hu/?modul=galeria&a=73881&p=1)
I visited Harpers Ferry and  Shepherdstown. I really liked to visit those little towns. I felt to go back in time and have a bite of history. Specially liked Shepherdstown. People was friendly and I had the best ratatouille so far in  a tiny french bistro. Pictures here http://arykana.lapunk.hu/?modul=galeria&a=99945 (http://arykana.lapunk.hu/?modul=galeria&a=99945)
More pictures here http://arykana.lapunk.hu/?modul=galeria&a=99912 (http://arykana.lapunk.hu/?modul=galeria&a=99912). I took so many pictures, even in restaurants http://arykana.lapunk.hu/?modul=galeria&a=99289 (http://arykana.lapunk.hu/?modul=galeria&a=99289)
