I took the opportunity to visit Harlow Carr on Wednesday afternoon prior to my visit to Harrogate Spring Show on the Thursday.
As you will know the Alpine House opened last year and I must say that after less tha a year it is looking wonderful.
I like the simple greenhouse style which contains a mix of natural planting and seasonal plunged pots. The design mixes the two themes together really well.
I have photos for you to make your own mind up. The sun was shining and it was really bright so I hope you can appreciate the photos that might not be as good as they could have been.
The first is a view of the house.
The next set is a series of photos walking down one side of the house Photos 1-8 and then back up the other 9-13. Probably in more than one post.

They still have nine empty troughs just ready to be transported to my garden. I'm sure I could find the room somewhere.
I wonder who the lucky person is that will get the job of designing and planting them.

Great pictures Graham. I think I just about could use an alpine house that size. Perhaps a little annex at one end for small kitchen/bathroom/bedroom. ;D
The troughs are great too. In the third trough picture I'm wondering if so shallow a trough is deep enough for the roots, even taking into account the raised parts?

With hot, South African sunshine we'd have to water a trough like that at least six times a day! - lovely though 8)
I'd like to try something like that with SA succulents, e.g. Conophytum spp., it would also be very attractive I think - now where to find a trough.... ???
