I've lost count of if this is the fourth or fifth week without rain
The threat of prolonged rain didnt happen yesterday >:(
Looking around the garden today snowdrops have suddenly gone over except for a few late ones. Many are now almost flat to the ground especially Wendy's Gold. Those in troughs needed water today. Not many Crocus left in flower in the beds either
-
Who else is playing, or is it just you and the weather :P
We must have had your share as well as our own. Chucked it down most of yesterday afternoon and from mid morning today it hasn't stopped. Just a thin heavy drizzle now (the sort that wets you through!)
-
Lots of rain this evening. ;D ;D ;D

On the positive side of the drought and warmth my tan is coming back

The same here. ;D

I've started rusting again-another wet day today.
-
Today in Perthshire was just glorious - sunshine most of the time and I got out to garden without a coat on for a change - hung out my first lot of washing on the line today ............and it dried!
-
It was 60f. yesterday at noon and woke up this morning to 28f. and 3 inches of snow!!!!! uuckkk

Our first rain in the Alps, rather than snow, arrived yesterday and is continuing today - everything looks instantly more green and many more bulbs are popping up..... the birds are singing madly and are happy to be wet rather than cold - it's Spring 8)
-
-8°C now, we still have around -15 at nights. And we have had some snow also :/
-
March has been pleasantly warm and dry after the ridiculous cold. Very wet yesterday for the first time since I can't remember when and supposed to be more unsettled all week. Still not cold though. Crocus and Snowdrops have been finished off, Cyclamen coum is still hanging in there.
I spend more time worrying about keeping the greenhouse cool than warm at the moment ;) Over 30C today but still easy to provide enough ventilation.
-
highs the next week of +5 to +14C, lows from -2 to -11C, and still no sign of precip..the snowpack will be getting smaller daily!
-
Still trying to work out what weather match means? ::)

Still tru=ying to work out what weather match means? ::)
Do you know - I hadn't even spotted that; I'd read the M as a W and thought it was weather watch....
-
Without reading your post I just realised it's was spelt wrong
-
Me too! ;D

Guess what happened last night?
-
Lots of rain?
-
Plague of frogs??
I love frogs but our lane is a migration route and at the moment driving down at night you have to go very slow and swerve from side to side to avoid hitting them.
-
Toads are the worst for this as they tend to be in pairs in amplexus (male firmly attached to female's back) and very slow on their feet. At least some frogs (males) hibernate at the bottom of the breeding pond so don't have far to go.
-
Yes it rained and rained. The beds are now wet again. The soil was dry to a couple of cm. Bob had .25 inch.
No frogs in my garden and have only seen one once. The primary school across the way was built on top of a brillaint newt pond. You wouldnt get away with that these days. I used to catch dozens and keep them in glass sweet jars before letting them go again
-
Snowing heavily here now,the first snow of the winter or spring.
-
Woke up to 2" of snow. Uck

Thankfully the snow has missed us but there is heavy rain, howling wind and very cold

Three days ago we had snow overnight then sun, warm enough to sit outside, and now today we have strong winds, dark skies and rain - all plants in the rockery are shellshocked :o

Good to see someone care about the service they provide Dave. May you always have lots of work and the energy to do it all.

Hear hear, David.... Davey is the sort of chap there should be more of!
The bad weather is so much more of a problem for those having to work outside to earn their living....a lot easier for those of us whose time is our own, even if we do moan about the rain and snow!!
-
We had more snow few days ago, the depth of the snow is about 80 cm :/
-
We're supposed to get 50cm over night tonight! :o
-
I got up this morning, turned on the shower.....NOTHING!!! We are out of water except for the bit in the hot water cylinder and I can use that, having turned off the water heating until it is replaced. Phoned the water man and he hopes to be here before Easter ( ??? ??? ???) lots of people in the same boat (not afloat though) as we are. Roger is bringing a couple of 20 litre jars from town and there was enough in the kettle from last night for coffee. I HATE being so dependant on rain, when we aren't having any. We can flush the loo from a plastic tank which we keep topped up when there's more rain than we want - rarely - but it is greenish, so not for drinking/cooking/washing.
-
We had a power cut for an hour this evening. I had just lit the gas cooker for tea (no, not the drink, the evening meal) using a match when the power came back on. Fortunately I can count on the fingers of one hand the number of power cuts we have had this century!
-
Our lights keep flickering, hope we dont get a power cut but just in-case I have a roaring fire going, at least I will be cosy.
Angie :)

1986 was the last time I lived in a house with a coal fire. I really miss it. These days it's combi boilers, thermostatic controlled radiators, double glazing and 10" thickness of loft insulation! :)
-
Maggie and David thank you for your kind comments they make rainy days all the much better ;D

This is our third house that we have built and everytime I have said a fire is a must. I just love when its snowy or blowing a gale outside I pile the logs on and no matter how cold it is out there it is cosy in my home and of course my husband built the house so he has cram packed it with insulation.
I also a forrest feet from my back door so there is always plenty of logs going spare, saves me using to much oil ;D

Lesley, so sorry to hear you are waterless, it's an awful thing to be especially when you only have enough for a cup of coffee in the kettle......do you have those big round water tanks or is your water supply from a spring/well? Of course the good things about having your own water (when you do) is that no chemicals are added and it hasn't been recycled a 1000 times. Hope everything is sorted out soon there has been some really strange weather everywhere recently and no more so than in Scotland with more snow and winter storms in the first days of Spring.
-
Our lights flickered and SKY kept going off after dark. The nearest town 5 miles away has no electricty. Horizontal snow most of yesterday but it didnt lie here but heavy snow seen to be localised especially in the west of N Ireland. Very cold just now 4c. Only recently we had a month without rain and temps up to 14. brrrrr
-
Robin, our water supply is what comes from the sky - and nothing else. We save the water from the house and garage roofs and also from Roger's big shed which is almost 100sq metres, so there's plenty for the house but of course with garden and small nursery as well..... We have to buy water about 2 years out of three.
The tanker came yesterday afternoon, so not a long wait and our big tank now has 20,000 litres, about 2/3ds full. Ironically, it is raining a little this morning, but just enough to wet the footpath and the clouds are going already. :(
-
Lesley,
Is it not possible to drill a well?
Paddy
-
Paddy, we and many others in the general area do have natural springs on our properties but are not permitted to tap them because the water table overall is getting lower and lower yearly as climate change on the east coast of NZ kicks in and we become more and more drought-prone. We're on a high hill but even on the Taieri Plain below us, water bores may no longer be sunk for the same reason. The only use our spring has is as a disgusting muddy patch which Cain, our English springer spaniel makes for as soon as he's out the door of either house or car. He ADORES the cool, sloppy mud and has to be hosed down which he also loves but I resent the water used to do it! For the same reason I very rarely clean either car or outside windows. ???
-
Lesley ... I rarely wash my car or my windows, do you think Lesley I could use the excuse that I am trying to save water. My excuse for not cleaning my windows is that if they aren't to clean the birds don't fly into them the same.
I cant imagine buying in water is it expensive to buy.
Angie :)
-
Feel free to use my excuse Angie. :D The water itself is not very expensive but the cartage makes it so.
We have been reported to the local council on a couple of occasions when there have been "no hosing" restrictions, because I have been happily watering. Had a bit of a smirk when I was able to show it was rain water I was using, not the metered supply offered by Dunedin city Council. ;D
-
Lesley,
Not having permission to have your own water supply on your own property sounds an unreasonable imposition and certainly makes heavy demands on you to arrange water collection/supply by other means. It makes one appreciate the ease with which we have our own supply. I have a private well and enjoy the fact that I can drink "untreated" water. My son will occasionally refill his water bottle in school and always asks us to smell the water when he comes home. The smell of chlorine and whatever else is added if horrific.

-
Heavy frost here this morning, just beginning to clear from the greenhouse roof as I write. Clear blue ssky though, I knew I shouldn't have started decorating the spare bedroom yesterday. :(
-
When one's supply is only from the sky and we live in a very clean, non polluted area, at least the water we DO have, tastes great. Dunedin's is horrid by comparison and when I was in hospital for 10 days last year, I had Roger bring me in a litre each day. We do have enough for the house it's only because I insist on puring water onto the primulas, cassiopes and such, that we run out in the summer. :D There is a surprising a,unt of new house building around us, even though the council has made it plain there will be no water provided as a regular town supply.
Also when in hospital, the relative of a friend (he was a lawyer) kept insisting that he needed to see "The Gordon File." The nurseres kept on refusing to allow him to work while not well. Eventually his brother brought the file in and it was found to be a box cotaining a bottle of gin and the necessary glasses. ;D
-
Well the birds are singing Spring songs so it must be Spring - even though snow is forecast for tomorrow! :o
Happy Easter weather to everyone!

My great tits have one egg.
Warmest day of the year today and what a lovely day. 16C
