Mark, I would tend to go for something that is as portable as possible. For example your neighbours may change in the future or simply just change their mind and you might be faced with restoring it to it's current position.

It's all fantasy just now especially with me out of work.

A raised bed, made using interlocking blocks, with buried pots would be good

Thankfully there is only one trampoline near me lying in bits in a neighbours garden. High wind lifted it, dumped it on a car and then blew it in to a front window.

With all that gravel I'm imagining a beach scene Mark...........you know the sort of thing you see at Chelsea.

An old wreck of a row boat, some skanky flotsam, old rope & there you have it.

And it can all be moved to another neighbours garden if you fall out with the 'girls' ;D

I'm with David, something portable.
Deck Chair, small table, glass of wine.

..... Just sit, look over the fence the other way round and admire the view 8)

I'd just be sure that they and you have the same ideas about the garden. They may be thinking that you'll make them a nice pretty garden that they can enjoy looking at and sitting out in while you look after it for them, all free of charge; while you may be seeing it as an extension of your own growing space where you can have overflow pots and suchlike. Also, be aware that anything you put on their property will be out of your immediate control and could get damaged or 'disappear', eg if they have parties, barbecues etc.
