Title: Cyclamen corms

i've just bought some Cyclamen coum and hederifolium corms, still showing a bit of leaf,  at 50p each. Worth two quid of anybody's money I thought.
The question is do I plant them straight away, leave them in pots and wait till autumn or let them dry out?

Hi Mick ,

In my eyes is it a good time now to plant Cyclamen out -I do this regulary in June .

Get 'em  planted outside now, Mick, let them settle in during that fabulous Yorkshire summer !

Is that the misty drizzly one like this morning.
I think I'll go and buy a few more then.

For 50p each, Mick, if they show any signs of life at all I would buy a few more to dot about... can't do any harm, can it?

Look carefully to see if they have seed heads, still curled up in the centre of the plant. If so, don't waste the seed but make sure that some is sprinkled around the plant or raised in a pot. Fresh cyclamen seed germinates easily and make the 50p an even better deal ;D.

Thanks for that David there are plenty of seed heads. How do I know when they are ripe?

I would be keeping an eye on them and waiting till they are strting to split open. I sow straight away without soaking overnight first, as I would with older seed. Stick the pots outside in the shade, do not allow to dry out, and just wait. With luck they will germinate next spring.
