Hi,
I grew these seedlings recently from seeds labelled Pelargonium "Lateripes", a natural hybrid of p. peltatum I think. I can't find any photos of Lateripes on the net, but my seedlings don't look much like what I would expect a peltatum hybrid to look like-has anyone out there grown this plant, and if so, did it look like mine?!
thanks all, James.

looks more like a zonale hybrid

B&T list Pelargonium peltatum ssp lateripes. There are many mentions of lateripes on the internet but no photos. My Pelargonium book lists it
means - stalk on side of leaf
section - Ciconium - inclides acetosum, tongaense, zonale, alchemilloides
" similar to peltatum except petiole is joined to the leaf .. stem round and erect .. flowers pale pink with red/purple feathering .. stamens deformed and sterile .. the plant is most likely a hybrid .. 1789 and 1805 drawings show a purple/pink flowered ivy-leaved plant ...

Thanks Mark, I must admit Zonale was my first thought also, it would just be nice to see a photo of what lateripes should look like!

Have a look at this photo: http://www.hannesblomsterverden.dk/Bil08BotPel/P.%20Lateripes.jpg ... it shows an entire leaf .....stalk attached differently to a zonal..... hope this helps... :D

Thanks. The flowers are identical to P. peltatum

Thanks Maggi-Thats definately not my Lateripes! I am not too worried though, as I have recently germinated seeds of the pure species p.peltatum which s very similar-I think those "zonale hybrids" will probably end up as summer bedding next year!
