Title: Vintage Year
Post by: SAXIFRAGE at LYMINGE on December 24, 2009, 05:55:30 PM
As the year draws to an end could I just say what a fantastic year its been for growing Saxifrage. It all started last winter with some
nice cold weather which I'm sure helped in the flowering. At the Blackpool Show there were 70 Pots of Sax's on the benches.
So with this cold snap we are having at the moment lets hope 2010 will be as good.
I would like to wish all my Saxifrage Friends a Happy Christmas and look forward to seeing you in the New Year.

Best Wishes David.

David, from the photos we've seen this past year we could tell it was proving a very good year for you Saxxy types  ::)
It won't be so very long till the new show season starts for you and we will be looking forward to seeing what the next season brings.
For sure it brings those of us marveling at the superb plants a great deal of pleasure.

Best wishes for another fab year of growing and showing  :)

Maggi, thank you for your best wishes Its a good job the "a" and the "e" are not close together on the keyboard when typing words like Saxxy!!!!!
Happy New Year to you and Ian.

Hello David
It did not registar with me that it was you. I saw some of your plants this year and they were outstanding and a few trophies came your way as I recall. I hope this coming year is as good for you. Pat.

David, I absolutely agree with you. Our saxes in the garden had a great year and I really enjoyed seeing those on the bench at Blackpool - the best show since moving to that venue I think. Susan has given me Malcolm MacGregors saxifrage book for Christmas so I'll be keeping an especially keen eye open at Blackpool this year. I just wish I could grow kabschias in pots though! They (and the silvers, and the mossies, and the oppositifolias) do fine just planted out in the ground here (!) but not if I confine them, so you won't see any of mine on the bench I'm afraid.

Hi Darren. If this cold weather carries on we should have another good year in 2010. But at the moment its gone back to being a little milder and very wet. I grow most of my Kabschias in Alpine Houses,
Silvers and Mossies are grown outside, S. Oppositifolias I cannot grow either way, but I'm still trying.
If you look on the Saxifrage Forum Site/ Growing & Showing I have been doing a Lyminge Update and you will see how the Sax's are grown here. www.saxifraga.org/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=107  Sorry can not make this a link!!!
Happy New Year David.
